Awesome news, been waiting for this.
Got a cousin flying there who can pick this up for me :D
Thanks MR

Seriously? Buying one of these bags is the true definition of Apple Fanboism. Your'e happy with whatever you get because it's made by Apple? Please...
I wouldn't spend my hard earned cash on the chance I might get something that I want. I know exactly what I want and that's what I'll buy. Talk about dumb.

So - from what company would you buy such a lucky bag? From samsung? Or Sony? With Apple their product palette is pretty well known. I dont know of any Apple product I would truly hate owning.

And even if you are not satisfied with what you get - the networth of the average bag is still always going to be around 350 at least - so you can sell some or all products at a relatively small loss.

So in the end I think it is a nice surprise pack and if you are really happy you get an iPad or a Macbook which you can sell at a substantial profit.

Its basically just a Kinder Surprise Egg with Apple Stuff.

Ah Lucky Bags, probably one of the more fun things I've done in Japan. We went to Toys R Us (the Awase store in 2007), I wound up with a gold Convoy, and couple Figmas, so I was a happy little gaijin.

It will never happen in America because the lawsuits and greedy lawyers will ruin it. The minute someone gets a grab bag and feels disappointed with its contents, the lawyers will come to their rescue.

I guess you aren't familiar with woot! and their Bag of Crap?

----------

You mean, sad that he really thought he was going to get an Air?

this article says that it's limited to Japanese customers -- so if you are just visiting Japan, you are out of luck (if true).

Do you have to line up for days to get one? so not worth it if that's the case. It's not like it's free!

I think is sad that someone can spend the week between Christmas and the end of the year camping outside an Apple store for such a stupid thing, like if it was sure that the first in the line would get the prize...
Moreover the Air went to the second one... can you immagine if the store staff would have given him the Air?? Next year probably people would fight in front of the store to be in pole position...

If you ever get a chance.... you should try checking out an Apple store in person. They are an impressive retail environment. The 1st thing you will notice is that they do NOT have outdated old stock laying around.
They are the epitome of a corporate practice called "just in time" inventory. They don't order vast amounts of junk that they can't sell.

While that may be true of Apple stores elsewhere, the two Apple stores in Tokyo are horribly mismanaged. Yes, the inventory is new and well-displayed. But there is absolutely no crowd control on the floor (very unusual in a country that excels at crowd control). It's a nightmare visiting the places. I'd hardly label them as "impressive retail environment."

If you're seriously thinking about asking your cousin to do this for you, I encourage you to reconsider. Tokyo is a fantastic city to explore. Why make your cousin spend several hours standing in line at an Apple store when he or she could be taking in all of the sights?

Wow. & a book is worthless to a blind person, a jet pack worthless to somebody that is afraid of heights.

Can we be done with pointless off-topic nonsensical posts now & get back to talking about Apple fans that own Apple products, that stand in line at an Apple store to pay over $300 for Apple accessories... or should we pretend some more like they would be there standing in line to buy a Apple goodie bag, but don't own any Apple products or realize that the accessories in said goodie bag are for Apple products?

So..... a majority of people on this board inferred the exact opposite as you?
Umm.. what a stupid presumption. Those kooky racial stereotypists.
Oh.... I suppose that should be singular. Nobody else but you made any racial comments at all.

Um...this Lucky bag sale is taking place in Japan is it not? Hence my reference to those"kooky Japanese". One, I think a lucky bag sale is KOOKY...and two...its in friggin JAPAN! Hello! Dear God, stop being so sensitive and quick to throw out the race card. Seriously. Did it ever occur to you that I'm Japanese? Or that I think that Americans are just as silly for doing stuff I think is kooky? Cause I am, and I do. But in this instance, we are talking about a kooky idea that is only being done in JAPANESE Apple stores. Duh.

So please, enough with the fake outrage. I know it must make you feel morally superior...but you just come off as a doofus.

If you are willing to lay down over 300 bucks for a bag filled with random Apple products, then you are a fanboy. You don't have to wait in line for hours to qualify. Relax, there are far worse things you could be. ;)

You must be one of the same trolls running around lobbing flame-baiting words like "Crapple" and "Apple Fanboi" in other forums. Really, that might have been considered acceptable in the 3rd grade.

Seriously, you used the word "fanboy" at least 3 or 4 times in this thread alone. I bet you feel smart, huh?

My cousin studying in JP bought one of these in the past.

I believe the way it goes is that each bag has items with combined value over the retail of bag. The only difference is some are hundreds of % more while others are tens of %.

It will never happen in America because the lawsuits and greedy lawyers will ruin it. The minute someone gets a grab bag and feels disappointed with its contents, the lawyers will come to their rescue.

This is exactly what would happen. Sad, but true.

Looks like some of the bags might be of equal or slightly higher value but honestly would most people pay 50 bucks for a frigging T-shirt? Just because the list price might say it's of equal value doesn't mean it's not some overpriced crap you know you wouldn't buy in the first place.

If your not walking out with an MBA, iPad or iPhone, you got worked over.

Lucky me (?) that I spend my new year in countryside. So less risk for me to try the gamble. In Tokyo I guess I would give it a shot; at least once.

I've heard it's opposite, all the bags are worth more than the price and there are a few which are worth a lot more than the price, that's why people get in a line in the cold weather, although personally I've never bought one.

Yes,
thats why people get in line over night even if its this cold outside! xD

This is Hokkaido (Sapporo) btw.

I went and no dice

So I wasn't doing anything and after thinking about it, I had the money and the time so I thought I would try it out. I woke up at 6am, was out the door at 6:15, arrived at the store by 6:45am, only to be told they told people to stop queuing at 6...........pm..........the day before! Haha oh oh, even the lowest end bag looked like a deal. It came with a red iPod nano, bluepod BT earphones, a BT speaker, a special Tee- shirt and an special design mophie juice pack mini, all inside of a never to be sold incase exclusive backpack that I liked. If I had gotten that one I would have sold the nano and maybe the BT speaker (I already have an awesome boombot rex) and ended up with a sweet backpack, a t-shirt to sleep in and nice headphones for $160USD. Not bad.

Definitely trying again next year!

Here is a video of the line if you're interested.
