broken spotlight?

Now whenever I search for something (say Safari) in Spotlight, it pulls up a few results, and I try to arrow down, or press enter to open an app, and Spotlight seems to crash and restart. The icon goes away for a second then comes back, then I can "search" again and crash it all over again...Anyone else experiencing this?

These are not viruses, they are Trojans. Trojans require the user to actively install the malware on his or her system. The bottom line is that you shouldn't install software from an untrusted site.

Wait, you don't trust your porn sites? Wow, I trust them with quite a lot of what I do...

I love how fast Apple responds and how easy it is to install updates! t4p

I know! I'm like, Oh my god! Microsoft could a learn a thing or two about how to do updates from Apple. It's all about the user experience with Apple... The alarm... the waiting.. fiddling your features on or off.. and finally, looking around for your system password so you can have that Out of Package experience.

Way better than the Windows; if you don't see the yellow shield, you might miss the whole thing!.

Completely buggered up!

I downloaded this update and it's completely buggered up my Safari and Firefox on my MP. In fact, I have a hard time rendering any webpage! I've tried my default apple start page, macrumors, cnn and yahoo. It won't completely render the Yahoo homepage and it's been nearly 5 minutes! I had to post this on my MBP which hasn't had the update since I couldn't even render macrumors. I've tried restarting my machine and emptying my safari cache. I know it's not my connection because my MBP is fine and my mail is downloading fine. It's just my web browsers. What's going on? Apple tech support is closed for the night! UGH!

LimeWire Problems?

Is anyone else having problems launching LimeWire after the Update? My icon looks like it bounces once and then disappears. I tried to set my Java settings back to default and restart but nothing changed.

Just curious, how come I always see users so reluctant to restart their computer?

1. It takes too long to quit all my programs, restart, then open everything again. I often leave a program open if I am only kind of working on something, so I usually have a lot of programs running. Right now I have Preview, Stickies, iTunes, Numbers, Firefox (with many tabs), Thunderbird, Sunbird (like iCal, I got used to it using my PC, so I still use it. It's slow on macs, though), VLC, Activity Monitor, Terminal, and Opera (for a website that wouldn't cooperate in FF3.5 beta). After rebooting I also have to start SMCFanControl, wait for Spotlight to index, and wait the first time I reload the dashboard.

2. OS X caches programs in memory if I close them, so reopening them is much faster. Rebooting clears all that out, so programs take a long time to load.

3. This isn't Windows, we shouldn't have to reboot all the time.

You've been watching too many Apple ads on TV. "Rebooting all the time" hasn't been an issue for a long time.... ;)

Basically Windows NT 5.0(later dubbed Windows 2000) fixed that problem. It was one of the design goals. But boy, it sure was nasty before that. I don't think you could even change an IP address without a reboot.

I found 10.5.7 address a lot of issues I had but i guess everyone to their own :)

I put in a whole lot of bug reports when Leopard first came out.

This update was when they finally fixed them ^_^

The most annoying one was the desktop not always updating properly when an application drops a file on there.

I know, but Windows still needs to be rebooted for most updates, and a lot of software installations. At least OS X doesn't have to reboot to install most programs. Plus, rebooting Windows every so often can help speed things up, while the same is no necessarily true with OS X since rebooting clears the recently closed program cache from memory.

Exactly,

Anyone who enters their admin password for a download from 'free-shady-pics.com' etc deserve anything they get!

(Like if you get a random phone call from a guy stating "My name's Bob, I work at your bank, can I have your account details.)

No issues at all with this update.

All my Java based apps are running well.

But maybe that's because I'm on a PPC based Mac running 10.5.7 ;).
I bet it has something to do with 64 bit Intel on Leopard!
They should keep their 64 bit Intel version for SL!

For those with issues in Safari, Firefox, Limewire, etc...
Try launching those apps in Rosetta. When you have no issues, let Apple know in the crashlogs you're sending (in the comment section).

Greets.
