I saw this coming a few years ago.

I had a Pebble and they were developing an Up app.

Honestly, it was really good and the developers were always posting updates, then one day. Nothing. No message, replies, nothing.

What a shame! Seems like they had a decent fitness app too.

Maybe Fitbit will buy them! :)

Still have a Up24 working away - seems to last a good while if you don't get it wet (my 2nd one now - bought several on fire-sale in Amazon after Jawbone got out of the hardware business and sold off their stock).

I've been waiting for the tracking service the App uses to stop working (for a long time now) but the company keeps it going - just synched this morning. They just did an update to the App in May as well (figured that would have stopped as well, but keeps on chugging).

Apple Watch was my next stop whenever Jawbone would choose to turn off the Up Synch (and basically brick the device at that point)....but I've been waiting for that to happen for a long time now - and with the transition to a new company shell may be a long time still.

Own the original jambox and big jambox and love them both. They had a lot of potential with the speakers.

Yes, but the market is so crowded/flooded with options. I'm surprised that Apple came out with a speaker to be honest...

Yes, right from the playbook of GM.

Look at Delphi. They bet the farm on beating the unions, and now China owns the farm.

There’s something ridiculous about a CEO who left his customers high and dry with no service or even the courtesy of returned messages being in charge of any company handling health products. Perhaps he will be successful catering to the consumer that pays to have fix-a-flat used for plastic surgery in a residential garage. I’d sooner buy from Theranos.

But that is not that different from so many medical device companies. If anything, there are so many more junk products in that realm...

that is unfortunate that some people will lose their jobs.

these people may have mortgages or rents that may pose difficulty on their lives.
That's why you calculate in the risk of you losing your job before you "buy" something you cannot really afford.

Especially if you work in a tech startup, where the risk of failure is not just theoretical.

Perhaps now they will have to cancel a planned vacation.

Maybe not as most plane tickets are non refundable.
The cheap ones are usually non-refundable. That's one of the reasons why they're so cheap.
Again, you have a choice. Buy the more expensive ones and get some kind of "insurance" with it or buy the cheaper ones and bear the risks.

Good riddance. I bought one of the UP wristbands and became defunct within 2 weeks. They refused a return or responsibility even though many others had the same experience as I did.

Couldn’t agree more.

I had one of their very first series headphones (just "Jawbone" because they didn't have any other products), and quickly replaced the stock earpiece with a replacement earpiece for some entirely unrelated headset, that I ordered based on recommendations from the internet. That made it fit well and stay in place (compared to the stock one). The sound quality, at the time, was groundbreaking - suddenly I could talk to people from inside a noisy car, and they could hear me loud and clear. The battery life wasn't much of a problem for me because I didn't use it extensively (didn't talk from the car a lot, but when I did it was usually important). It fell out of favor (with me) when I got a car that had built-in bluetooth with decent call quality.

Sorry to see them go, if only because they did do something kind of revolutionary once.

This was exactly my sentiment as well. I loved my noise cancelling Jawbone headset and still have it today, along with the 3rd party earpieces which have yellowed a bit with age.

Didn't even realize they branched off into fitness trackers. Sounds like a dumb decision, way too much competition in that space. They should have stuck with what they were great at.... management dropped the ball there...

In May of last year, speaker and fitness tracker company Jawbone ended production of its fitness trackers and started seeking a buyer for its speaker business, leading to speculation that the company was going out of business.

Jawbone denied claims that it was shutting down and planned to pivot to medical products for direct sale to clinical practitioners, but that may not have panned out, as The Information reports that the business is officially shutting down.

Jawbone has reportedly started liquidation proceedings and notices have been sent out to its creditors.

Jawbone co-founder and CEO Hosain Rahman has moved on to a new company called Jawbone Health Hub that is designed to make "health-related hardware and software services." Many existing Jawbone employees have already transitioned to the new company.

Jawbone Health will reportedly service existing Jawbone products, which may allow existing Jawbone customers to get help with their devices. Jawbone has been ignoring customer service requests for several months, making customers unhappy. Starting in January, Jawbone customers were unable to contact Jawbone support and did not receive responses to service requests for faulty products.
