That's part of it, but also if they're outfitting the entire fleet, this is going to be a very large one-time expenditure, and shareholders generally want to know about these things. If you think about this, it’s pretty weird companies announce this. Imagine they communicate which kind of vacuum cleaners they bought.
They just want to ride the Apple-is-cool-so-we-are-too train.
but good for them and their pilots![]()
I use my iPad Pro 11" in small airplanes several times a month with no overheating issues. And we hit 100°F here earlier this week. No Air Conditioning in most of the stuff I fly.Apple needs to work on overheating issues when device is in direct sunlight... until then, I will not be impressed.

I suppose I should quantify overheating... the device heats up, and dims the screen to an unreadable level when used in bright sunlight. I have this issue both with an iPad Pro at work (in an air conditioned cockpit), as well as on my iPhone during fun flying. The iPhone 12 is by far the worst offender of the two (could it be the OLED screen?). Perhaps you just don't fly enough to have this issue come up often. It's annoying enough that my employer is moving to Garmin 760s instead of the iPad.I use my iPad Pro 11" in small airplanes several times a month with no overheating issues. So why not announce that they're using Dyson V11 Animals to clean the planes? Not really. Younger fliers are looking for companies that are tech savvy.

I’m more a fan of foreflight it’s one of the best electronic flight bags out there. They should invest in some state of the art software for their iPads:
And not just use them as fancy bindersAVTECH website

Yes, true. But it’d be even better to have some sort of display that would allow one to ”snap in” an iPad for use as a display, as opposed to some sort of Airplay-style one.I've used an iPad for flying and it's pretty great. We are able to see weather, air traffic, plan our route, upload flight logs easily. It's one of the places where an iPad works really well. Although I would've thought most of that functionality would be integrated into the glass cockpit of a new airliner.

Maybe they do. Have you checked on dysonrumours? So why not announce that they're using Dyson V11 Animals to clean the planes?
They may have a marketing contract with Apple, to mutually promote their partnership. If you think about this, it’s pretty weird companies announce this. Imagine they communicate which kind of vacuum cleaners they bought.

I’m not sure printing is all that costly, these are $1000ish devices. The alternative were vast sums of paper that had to be printed for every flight with manuals, routes, weather, etc. the iPad pays itself by printer, paper, ink and man-hour savings in a handful of flights. Having all this info at hand is required, either printed or on an electronic device, so the iPad is not an added cost but a more efficient replacement of something else that wasn't free either in the first place.
