Personally the Zune is looking fairly attrective right now. Ever since the 5th Gen iPod came out everyone has complained that it needed to be widescreen and have a bigger screen. I don't care for the WiFi sharing really but you have to admit the interface looks pretty nice.

The Zune is no more widescreen than the iPod is. And the resolution is exactly the same (320x240), it's just physically bigger on the Zune, and has been rotated 90 degrees compared to an iPod's screen.

I think that a wireless music sharing feature, via a similar interface to iTunes, will definitely be in the iPod's future. And at which point, the iPod may also have the capability to make music purchases.

But the way Microsoft has its 3 days or 3 plays is just horrible. Microsoft is just getting on its knees and giving lip-service to the record companies rather than it being the other way around via Apple's way.

Back to the article... This just affirms to me that Jobs and Apple have a couple things between their legs that the competition does not.

Oh yes, a "click wheel" that does not actually have click wheel functions is such a nice interface...

You don't go to the right clubs, mate.

There was this girl once in a punk club just off oxford street ... ;)

Yes, it would be rare for two people who hardly know each other to go start sticking icky things into icky parts of each other's bodies  :D

My first impulse would be to clean the girls ear with my tongue after she
shares my headphones.

(Sorry I went there, couldn't help myself)

Nice quote on Engadget's website: "iWhore, therefore iPod."

I voted Negative because we all know Steve is furious that Microsoft is releasing a wireless MP3 player before Apple. The iP$d needs some serious revamping.

What exactly is 'wireless' about this MP3 player? Sharing songs three times doesn't count in my book. There's no wireless syncing, nor wireless connection to my stereo. What's the big deal again?

those sites are all run by MS.

the screen? same res as the iPod, so it will look crappy as the pixels will be stretched to fit the screen.

Yep, that "comparison" seems very suspicious indeed... Just look at how they compare, in size, a 30GB Zune with a 60/80GB iPod! The 30GB iPod is that much thinner compared to its bigger sibling, let alone to the über-fat Zune...

And the screen resolution is cr*ap, for a screen with that size... I'm also figuring that since the display is probably a conventional horizontal display rotated in portrait mode, when you use the player, the colours each eye sees will be different, due to the vertical viewing angle, which is generally much smaller than the horizontal; and on the Zune, these will be reversed and will screw our stereoscopic vision, thus causing a lot of eyestrain... Just use a Sansa (which has the same display orientation) for more than five minutes and you'll know what I'm talking about

Yeah, iPods are a fad. Who knows how long this fad will last.

I can tell you one thing, is as long as Apple continues to make them better, and continue to listen to their customers.

It will stop being a fad, and it will be a way of life...

Want to really make it good, be able to do wireless between the iPod and the Zune. That will get Bill Gate's undies in a twist!

From Wireless iPods, Soon? Thread...

I said the same thing, basically, way back in this thread:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/225187/

"As far as sharing in your range. Again a waste of battery to support this. I have what I wnat ton hear for the most part. I don't much care to drain my battery searching other users' libs (that will come and go as they wander around and in and out of range - oh great, I found a cool Streets video I don't have!! Oh wait he just left range!!!), it's short-lived enough already."

Steve should hire me when I get back.:D

Before getting slapped... I guess if youre a billionaire you can shove earbuds into a strangers ear, but here in Real World USA the results would not be pretty. Do that with your girlfriend, I dont think ANYONE would want a stranger theyve known for 1 minute coming up to them and putting crap into their ear.

And you think most people would want strangers trying to send them songs and pictures?

Along the same lines, anyone else remember the episode of The Office where Jim used "earbud sharing" with Pam? Gotta love tasteful product placement.

For months on end we've been bombarded with Zune-friendly "news" articles calling it an "iPod killer". Even before Microsoft had a name for it, before they had any sort of design for it, while it was still vaporware, the media kept hammering home, "iPod killer" while seeming to drool over the prospect.

I guess you've been reading different articles than I have. Since they've announced details and pictures I've mostly been seeing articles along the lines of "What a Turd".

all this beaming vs using the ear buds (yours or theirs) reminds me of the great expense NASA went to make a pen that works in space and Zero G. as compared the Russians who used a pencil

Urban legend. The space pen was developed by a third party, and pencils were used in early nasa missions. Pencils aren't good for outer space since they can burn and shavings and lead bits can float around, which is hazardous.

And just like Vista, who the hell knows when thats gonna be?

Zuning (or whatever the hell it is) is a whole load of nonsense. Only about 97.1% of all hot chicks have no friggin clue how to do anything on their iPods other than play music (calenders, contacts, equaliser). You expect that blonde sitting across from you at the airport to know Zuning? Well she's the one who routinely clicks on "U R hte 1th vistir!! U won a PINK Ipod Nano!!! CLICK HERE" links...

HA! Good luck

My favorite part:

Microsoft has announced its new iPod competitor, Zune. It says that this device is all about building communities. Are you worried?

In a word, no. I've seen the demonstrations on the Internet about how you can find another person using a Zune and give them a song they can play three times. It takes forever. By the time you've gone through all that, the girl's got up and left! You're much better off to take one of your earbuds out and put it in her ear. Then you're connected with about two feet of headphone cable.

Fishes,
narco.

Zuned is what happens to your iTunes library when it suddenly vanishes.. you got zuned...

I think one of the greatest flaws in the wireless is that the only use I can see is between friends, I have a wireless MP3 Player already (called a macbook, it's a litttle smaller than the zune ;) ) and in a CS seminar someone bluetoothed me a song, now as a Maths student I don't know the Comp Sci people so I'd never spoken to before so I rejected it, I can't believe I'd do any different if I had a Zune, unless I knew them, in which case I might as well go round with my iPod to their house ;).

I dont want to put anyones hopes up or down but tomarrow is tuesday. And invitations for a media event go out a week before an event which in this case would be next tuesday. So if the fullscreen things gonna happen in time for ipod's birthday invitions will come out tomarrow.... If there are no invites there wont be a fullscreen ipod till january, if there are invites then ipod will be here on tuesday... That is my prediction...
