Where did I specifically say that I'm not naive? It was implied that I'm not as naive as I was when I made my OP. I never said that I'm 100% wise and not one bit naive.
You're naive if you believe you were less naive than you were 4 hours prior.
If you believe you've gained so much insight into life in 4 hours via a web forum then great. You, however, did say you were once naive and now you are not. That has a tone of finality to it even if you did not say the exact word. But you have all the insight you need so why am I telling you this?

I think you're a child and you see a lot of "cool" things out there. I think you need to soak them up and do things because they're fun, not because you're trying to career path. It is nice to see you're driven but at your age being driven and confused can lead to disaster. Enjoy youth, when you get older life can suck balls no matter how much you make.

....
A few months ago I wanted to be an F1 car designer (well one aspect of designing them) now I don't know. I just know there are things I've never heard of that might be appealing at some point.

Guess what? Even if you've researched a multitude of careers, made your lists and short lists, and finally devoted yourself to learning a skill set, then mastering the skill set, then finally turning it into a paid career - you are still going to come across somebody doing something incredibly cool and finding out that he/she is getting paid to do it.

You can't live your life with regrets... you make your choice, you take it as far as you can without wondering what colour the grass is over the fence.

I'm not saying that you need to be locked into any single career, just you can't spend your life wondering if you made the right choice. You make an informed choice, and see where it leads - not go career hopping every 18 months for the thrills.

I'm still convinced you need to travel some, and gain some world experience and maturity....

ps listen to jessica.... she's a wise women....

If I don't travel before college then I'm going to study abroad for a semester. Probably in London. You get a spring break that I will use to travel more. I know that I want to go to Glasgow and Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands, then I will have to pick where else I want to from a huge list I will eventually make. Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, etc. Some I can do over a weekend depending on how close and what I'm doing. Others need more time.

When the time comes I'll make a plan and decide which places to see. Maybe visiting those places will give me ideas as to what I'd want to do.

That's fair. I realized I wanted to be a photographer somewhere between Watersmeet and Lynton/Lynmouth on a trip to Great Britain when I was 14. Got my first paid photography gig that year, and today I'm still a photographer and more. I say one can never travel enough. Every mile has something to offer.

Spot on with that one! (sadly) Some of the best times, were back when I made crap $.

OP: Give yourself a couple more years before fretting over your future. Try the things you're interested in, and also some things you're not - you'll be surprised at what can change with exposure.

As for the career plans... for every Steve Jobs, Spielberg or Michael Jordan - there are 7 billion of us who are NOT. Given those odds... perhaps try working a "boring persons" job a bit - that'll either prove (to everyone) that you're not one of the 7 billion, or allow you to readjust your sights... just slightly, if you are.

Resorts don't count. Although please correct me if I've made the wrong assumption.

You need some diversity.

Depends on where. Different cultures there. Compared to going to a resort in Florida that still has American culture albeit different compared to Seattle

You can always teach theatre like the rest of the people that aren't any good at English, math, or science :p.

No. Resorts don't count. You don't expand your horizons at resort. It may be cool, fun, different, new.... but nobody ever came back from a resort a better and wiser person. More relaxed, yes. Calmer, yes. Recharged, absolutely.

But not wiser or challenged. And if you think so... then you really do need to travel.

A semester abroad is better than nothing...

I was talking about 6 months to a year. Of hanging out. Of meeting new people who were completely different, and not "different but taking the same classes." Of going to places on a whim because you met up with a bunch of people who you liked and were heading there.

At least take a year's university abroad so that you get to do the full cycle of holidays there. A friend of our's daughter spent a year (a full 12 months) doing her 1st year university in the UK. At least then she was able to travel to both London and the rest of the continent on school breaks.
