the UK imac interest free imac deal runs out at about teh same time..... The pitiful craphics card in teh imac MUST be changed if nothing else!

i software I and most of my work/uni colleagues want. iGraph. I spend AGES farting around with kaleidagraph, and touching them up in illustrator - it is soooo frustrating to produce publication quality postscript graphs. Delta graph is more 'fancy' but it is equally ugly and painful to use. Apple, please please please knock up something simple to use, but powerful in features for us Uni/research people - mathematica is overkill and an expensive solution JUST for knocking up a graph. Some of apples best features has been its simple to use, intuitive software that contains many of teh features of 'bigger, pro' packages, without the needless bloat. Claris CAD is still in use here, and for quick workshop diagrams it owns. Please bring the cheap, simplistic elegance of iTunes to educational research software, and flog more computers to british universities!

Rebates on Tibooks

Just a tip for those out of the academic loop. I went to the academic Apple store and found the base Tibook now priced at $2,060. Seems to me this may mean something with regards to Paris. Anyone have any ideas? (btw - the other top models are reduced as well.)

I would say they reduced the prices for inventory clearance, but then why wouldn't the do it to the regular price also? I don't get it. I still believe that we will see a new TiBook in Sept. it wont be spectacular, but there has to be a revision.

OBVIOUS LETDOWN IN STORE

I really hope Steve know that by saying no new hardware people would nit-pick at his phrasing of "new" and "hardware". Speed bumps are key, they aren't minor, for a standard speed bump to occur, apple has to cleverly empty it's pockets of TiBook 400s, then build a 550, the idea of a 566/633 is hardly possible, I remember reading in a MacAddict the reason why Mhz come in relative sets (ie every 50 vs in 33s) is because of the pin cound or something, so a 566 "could" be a new chip (or overclocked to 575). Then why is the top end PowerMac 800 vs the 33-multiples of the 733 and 867 (really a 866.66 i beleive)? I don't know, If rumors has taught me anything it's because of soldering settings or because it's a cheeper G4 than the others.

I want everyone to remeber last year's event: Alow me:
MWNY replay, just incase you don't have QT4 (yet).
Only announcement THE BRAND SPANKIN' NEW RADEON!!!! (wow) yes, a radeon. Some might say, well then the TiBook could get a radeon as a 1-year anniversary? I doubt it, to change the GPU now will take away from the Onyx revision.

Then agin Steve Couldn't hold back the damn iBook til MacWorld so the production team could stockpile them and have MP800s ready for the expo!

Guaranteed "big" events at France: Puma is Shipping, MP800 is shipping, MAYBE a faster FireWire drive but most likely: discounts are in effect for TiBooks (but now in Euro-dollars!!).

Trust me all things that are euro- suck
~Nick

Examples:
Eurodisney
Euro- 6 flags
Eurodollar is Ok (only cuz it was designed on a mac though ;¬)

Not everything in europe sucks.
Our cars are far better, instead of lolloping american crap.
We also have better food, never mind your "foot long weener".

And as for amsterdam, well hey hey it beats tijawana any day.
But agreed we must learn not to excpect too much.

Re: Ela

Kela,
That's a statistical lie, you know why? You are basing it on two persons, that's like pretty...mmm... crazy.
Okay, say I use Macintosh, you use Macintosh. Oh look at that, according to my research there are about 100% macusers.
Also, if half of the mac community would actually use a software, that would be alot of users, no problem there.

Yo Pants...im not saying iPhoto is bad, Im agreeing with you that like iDVD and iMovie, iPhoto is USELESS!. Secondly, other paint/touch up programs already exist that are freeware and quite powerful. Personally i dont know what apple plans to do with iPhoto? Secondly, look at that useless i-Tunes!! AS IF MAC USERS HAVENT SEEN A Mp3/radio player with good graphics before??!! DUHH!
Look, im a mac user and so are you. You say iPhoto is something that you have been waitin for, and I say its uselss. That makes 50% saying no to iPhoto and 50% saying yes to it. Just imagine if this is the case with the whole mac market! STEVE's got a problem.

math

your math logic is correct

and i kinda agree with what you are getting at--my feeling is that apple is making software programs so those who maybe don't have the money to go out and buy oh let's say photoshop or just aren't that computer literate can have quality, easy to use programs right there on the first boot.
