okay so apart from not having more hard drives/eSATA/microphone port/more USB ports/dual 16xPCIe/small HD capability (raptors/SSD)/BluRay/USB 3.0/Firewire 1600/1333mhz DIMMs / not enough RAM slots, we all agree that the Mac pro is perfect and that we are blessed Apple's considering even updating the product.

Well they could make the price lower. :D

Hmm... I stumbled across some Twitter findings from Mr. Gruber. Looks like there probably won't be a Mac Pro case redesign, but then again, is that really a surprise?

@brandonkelly:
"Taking @gruber’s leak to mean that tomorrow we’re going to see the biggest Mac Pro redesign since the original G5"

@gruber:
"@brandonkelly I have no idea what they look like, but I'd bet the external design is unchanged."

I'd like to believe him too. But isn't this a bit too daring for him, no pun intended? If he posts insider information like this isn't he at risk of pissing off or losing his Apple contacts? Maybe he is just teasing. I hope he's right though. Tomorrow could be very exciting.

Usually these are intentional leaks.

We'll know in a few hours. But it does make sense the update would happen soon.

Apple would probably like to avoid September since that is normally reserved for iPods and iTunes.

I'm not going to lie, I think this is a VERY intentional leak. Type in "John Gruber" on Google. There are a TON of news sources who have picked this story up.

Textbook Apple marketing right there, use Monday (a slow news day) to build buzz, then release your products the next day.

Figures. Wonder if they'll ever redesign the case.

Last week he referred to his "payola rep" at Apple in this article:

http://daringfireball.net/2010/07/lyons

where he was asked by this "payola rep" to write an article to dispute Dan Lyons's critique about the iPhone 4. However, he refused to do so, because he felt Lyons's article had merit.

So clearly he does have connections at Apple, and he is definitely an Apple supporter. However he also does criticize them for some of their more questionable or bone-headed decisions, and doesn't apparently suffer from doing so. (He was also at the iPhone "Antennagate" press conference, whether by direct invite or otherwise.) So I don't think this "leak" of sorts would affect his standing with Apple, even though these two scenarios are not directly related.

OMFG… the entire article is sarcasm from start to finish. He destroys Lyons' article in a backhanded way. Seriously, I can't believe you thought he was serious! Wow…

Not exactly sure, but maybe 7 AM central, again, not sure, just what comes to mind.

The store itself went down really early in the morning—somewhere around 1am eastern.

But it was also the same morning as the iPhone 4 pre-order launch, iirc. So they had lots of stuff to prepare.

Did you not catch the dripping sarcasm of that article? He was basically saying Dan Lyons is a moron.

Mac + Gruber, yes its a conspiracy I tells ya!

Oh the irony.

Anyway, hope they also announce 2008 Mac Pro compatible graphics card updates. A 5870 would be nice.

Yep, Apple pretty much has us at it's mercy, like dogs. Begging for Steve Jobs' table scraps.

Think about how much happier this board would be if we could install OSX on our own hardware, or if Apple just kept theirs regularly current.

You mean hackintoshes are fake? :eek:

:D

I'd love to see a new Mac Pro. Don't expect prices to go down at all though. :(

Yeah, but I do hope value goes up. But again, this IS Steve Jobs. This guys has decades of behavior that hasn't changed. Don't expect it too now. The guy is a certified sociopathic nut job in my book.

I'm also pretty crazy. I'm hanging out on these sites, waiting for any sort of Mac Pro leaks. Of course, I'm working too but...
