I've been to JL today at Cribbs Causeway (Bristol) and been told they haven't had any iBooks (although they had both the 12" and 14" on display) in stock for customers for severtal weeks, the list of waiting orders is up to about 30, and they have no date for restocking.
Then I went to PC World, also at Cribbs Causeway, was told they had sold their last one this morning, and that they were waiting for Apple to confirm the delivery date of the next batch. The shop guy also let slip that they had taken the Mac Mini off the floor 'because Apple were pulling the G4'. Read into that, what you will.

I bit the bullet and bought a 14.1 inch iBook from Regent Street. It's fine so far, nothing to complain of. Ended up costing £845 taking student account into discount. I also got £30 off an HP printer making the HP PSC 1610 £40. Not too bad for a printer, scanner and photocopier!

There's nothing sinister btw for those of you who got the emails from johnlewis.com about iBooks. Apparently it was decided to take everything that we don't have a current 'accurate' date from suppliers in terms of when stock is scheduled off the site since otherwise it costs us hugely in terms of customer calls - and our out of stock measure that our team gets called on since that affects our performance details and it's not our fault!
To be honest, Apple are going to have to get their fingers out on this. It's all very well us laughing about it here but retailers have targets to meet and have to reserve a certain amount of space on websites/warehouses/shop floors to store/display stock. If the supplier doesn't meet their delivery targets, then that space is costing money with no benefit coming in. As the UK economy weakens, retailers will be looking at ways to cut costs and maximise returns. With the margins on Apple's not being huge, it's hardly going to encourage shops to keep selling them...

I will read into that that the shop guy in PC World knows no more than I do about Apple's plans but is happy to talk crap to his customers, possibly because it makes him feel superior.Marky_Mark said:
