Nope. It really doesn’t. And you are the only person I’ve ever interacted with in any capacity who doesn’t comprehend that.

First PC I bought had 32 MB of RAM and sold for well over $1,000. By your logic, the current entry level Mini should be what... roughly $75,000 USD?

Not to mention nobody ever said the 2014 Mini was a good value. So I have no clue what point you think you are trying to make.
Since you have trouble comprehending, I’ll spell it out.
  • Nov 7, 2018 the 2014 8/128 Mac mini was $749.
  • Nov 8, 2018 the new 2018 8/128 Mac mini was $799, with much better specs. The 8/256 was $999.
  • Mar 18, 2020 the 2018 8/128 Mac mini was discontinued and the 8/256 config dropped $200 to $799.
Those are the undisputed facts. Deal with it. In 2018, there was a price increase of $50 on the 8/128, and lower spec’ed SKUs discontinued. In 2020, there was a price cut of $200 on the 8/256, lower spec’ed SKU got discontinued. Older SKUs get discontinued when they lose relevance, don’t they.

I really don’t know what point you think you’re making. I’m just giving you the facts.

Dated design but updated internals? I don't know man... The price helps but still Apple could've made it so much better.

The whole point is that they don't need to. A lot of people, maybe even most people don't care if their phone has a "dated" design. Many even prefer it. So Apple can save a lot of money and keep the price down by using the iPhone 8 frames they're already producing. The R & D money and man hours go into the flagship models for the people who do care about the bells and whistles, and are willing to pay for them.

What are you talking about?
Xiaomi is a trusted name on countries they're in.

Again, what are you talking about? It's a 6 years old design, it's like building a smartphone with a box of scraps. That's exactly what they did!

It's ancient technology.

There’s a company that sells a product built out of a box of scraps using “ancient” technology but so don’t ever hear anyone complains about the product they produce.

The company? Porsche.

Currently using a 1st Gen X, And miss the form factor of the 8. At this price point, and trade in value, I can get one for £220. Bargain.

The best thing about iPhone SE is its size. You don’t make an upgraded iPhone 8 and call it an SE when you remove the very thing that makes an SE what it is.

This is reason to look for a small Android phone.

Good luck with that. ;)

Most cheap Android phones have ~6" screens nowadays. And Android flagships definitely do.

It's very difficult to find a "small" Android phone anymore... though I'm sure there are some. (and someone will undoubtedly post links in reply)

Just be glad that Apple embraced the small phone for as long as they did.

Original iPhone to Original iPhone SE... 2007-2017

If you look at a picture of a 1956 Porsche 356... it looks a little bit outdated. The 1964 Porsche 911 looks brand new. So does the new iPhone SE.

So it’s from £419 in UK
Including 20% VAT, which is about £70. In the USA, sales tax is never advertised.

Drop the iphone 8 to 249.. I've got some friends I'd love to buy a couple for, they don't need the latest and greatest.
You seem to think that if Apple can sell an improved phone for $399, they can sell an older one for $249. It doesn't work that way. With technological progress, you can build better things at the same price. Doesn't mean you can build an older device for cheaper. Otherwise, Apple could sell a 1984 Macintosh computer (0.000,128 GB of RAM, 0.000,000,400 TB of drive space) for about 10 cent.

The power of Apple as a brand, and the loyalty to it is a factor I think, yes. I think you are also paying for the years of software updates you are guaranteed to get as well.
And the chip. I mean a phone costing 399 has faster chips than 1400 android phones

$399US sounds great but here in Australia that translates to $749AU, still cheep compared to the iPhone 11 which I have and competitive with some of the cheap Androids but its a 3-4yo design.

I didn't want to leave myself open for attack. The upgrade on software is normally enough.

The A13 is a scrap? WiFi 6 is a scrap? And both are ancient technology? The only thing that is ancient is the l, w, h.

$25 is massively overpriced? Really?

No discount compared to the 8? You were getting the 8 at a discount, paying $424 while we were paying $449 here in the states. Time for Apple to make up for that loss!

It seems you know as much about the Canadian dollar and exchange rates (and basic arithmetic) as you do about the effect of time on PC component pricing. That is to say - next to nothing. Or you just enjoy lying.

Again, why are you rambling incoherently about the 2014 Mac Mini and what point do you think you are making? What relevance does the 2014 Mac Mini have to anything being duscussed in this thread? It’s 2020. You aren’t making any sense.

Nice, content-free reply. And congrats on throwing in the gratuitous ad hominem—and false—insults questioning, among other things, my arithmetic skills, and accusing me of lying 🙄 Feel free to sack up and apologize.

1) Despite your claiming I don’t know anything about the Canadian dollar, exchange rates or basic arithmetic, the truth is exactly as I stated above in post #152, where I replied to your post whining that the SE was “massively overpriced”.

As I said, it’s $25 more than it is here in the States. $25.95 to be exact:

2E24258B-8F7B-4A31-99B4-6A32B003DE47.jpeg

599 Canadian is 424.95 US. So you’re claim of “massively overpriced” is false—total BS, right? It’s all of $25.95 more than the $399 we pay.

And you said “No discount compared to the iPhone 8” which I take to mean it was also 599 Canadian. Well, that’s 424.95 US. We were paying $449 here.

So actually it’s you who do not understand the value (or lack thereof) of your own Canadian dollar, exchange rates—or basic arithmetic, isn’t it?

Awaiting your apology for the various insults and accusation that I was lying.

2) What you call “rambling incoherently” was a concise statement of facts—unrefuted by you, I note—comparing the $799 pricing of the 2018 8/128 mini to its $749 price in the 2014 model.

You don’t seem to want to acknowledge that the price is basically the same. You want that not to be true, but it’s a simple, unequivocal fact, isn’t it?

I get you may not like those facts, and that you’re angry and upset it’s the truth. You think the new model should have been priced lower? Fine, whatever. But it wasn’t. Deal with it. We have a saying here: you’re entitled to your own opinion but not your own set of facts. You don’t have to like it—but it’s the truth regardless.

When I state the prices, that’s a simple statement of fact. Just like the fact that the $999 8/256 got a price cut last month to $799 🤷‍♂️

Don’t whine about how facts aren’t true when they clearly are. You don’t need to make snide, condescending replies like, “That’s not the way it works, chief”. I get you don’t like the facts, but that’s a you problem, isn’t it?

3) re: your question about relevance to this thread: that’s the pot calling the kettle black, isn’t it? It was in reply to your post:

Factoring inflation, the 2020 Air is the lowest priced laptop they’ve ever released, right?

4K iMac is also a great value.

The Mac Mini is overpriced for 2020.

No, the Mac mini isn’t overpriced for 2020. Expensive maybe, but not overpriced. And less expensive than ever, now that the 8/256 config that previously sold for $999 is priced at $799.

If you post crap, expect to get called on it. And when you post OT—even in a boring waiting-to-go-live thread—don’t complain about a reply you don’t like being OT. That’s a foolish response, and bad form on top of it.

The thing with consumers, they don’t care if this phone has the latest internal specs‘ as the most expensive iPhones. We care about the spec details, because most of us understand the comparisons, but I think Apple really wants to make this phone simple as possible with the ‘price point and form factor‘, that’s really all the average consumer can handle in terms of understanding what it’s really about.

Exactly.

Speed is an intangible feature for the majority of consumers. The proof is just the Snapdragon 700 line that has a higher volume than the 800s.

People like to have a nice looking phone on their hands with a nice screen. In my opinion, the older SE looks and feels better with chamfered edges and flats sides, it just looks premium.

I’m hesitant to say this, but you seem like someone who is deeply unwell. The 2014 Mac Mini isn’t worth getting so worked up over. I hope you’re able to find peace and address whatever it is you are going through.

Again, nice content-free reply... No substance whatsoever, just additional personal attacks 🙄

So you’re unable to apologize for accusing me of lying, and unable to admit the falsity of your ad hom insults. I must say I expected as little 🤷‍♂️

As you complete your education, go out into the world and mature in your personal relationships, you’re like to learn that admitting when you screw up and taking ownership for it is actually a sign of strength, not weakness. Or you may not, who knows lol. But it is valuable to have that capacity.

re: your concern trolling, be assured I’m quite well, and I’m certainly nowhere near “worked up” lol.

Good luck to you; hopefully you’ve learned to be a little more restrained in your online insults, false accusations and other ad hom attacks. Or maybe not, who knows?

PS Feel free to apologize for accusing me of lying and your other personal insults 🙂 I won’t be holding my breath though. Stay healthy 😷

If it looks just like my 8, how will anyone know that I upgraded?
If your concerned about impressing people with an upgraded iPhone, you might be better off waiting for the 6.7” iPhone 12 Pro Max coming this fall. It’ll be instantly identifiable as it will be YUGE! 🙂

If the new SE were identifiable as an SE, you might be embarrassed that everyone knows you have the entry-level, budget phone 🙁

I was being sarcastic.... I might still grab a 8s, I have a 8 for my work line and I enjoy that it still has Touch ID. Im still not the biggest fan of Face ID on my XS. I did skip the 11 and was waiting for 12 to retire the XS, I really do hope its like the 4/5 body style, I miss that form factor.
