One look at Altman and my spider senses go crazy. This guy radiates a “don’t trust me” vibe like there’s no tomorrow.

Ive has become fat, living the good life while riding the wave of things achieved in the past. Whatever cool he had is gone. He’s also unbearable to watch as he can’t stop moving his feet or fidgetting with his hands and fingers.

What drug is he on??

If Laurene is backing this project, I have no doubt it will be something very good.
Her importance for Steve and Apple is so underrated.

Wonderful talk between them.

Spot-on. So many tech forum pundits lacking even a wee bit of curiosity jump to the device being a guaranteed flop knowing absolutely nothing about what the device is and what it's capable of doing.

And probably don't understand why little/no information is being released at this point in time by Altman and Ive. Hint: How much information about the first Mac was released by Jobs before he introduced it back in 1984?
There’s a pretty big difference that you’re leaving out though.
Steve and Apple announced the existence of the Macintosh to the world at large at the Super Bowl… two days before it started shipping.
The Super Bowl was on January 22, 1984, it started shipping on January 24, 1984.
Meanwhile these guys are saying that it might maybe possibly but possibly not shipped two years from now, and you can’t say what it is, what it’s name is, what it does, how it works, what the purpose of it is, what the price point of it is, or anything.

Yes, that's true and I vividly remember that video. But the point I'm making is Jobs/Apple released zero information about the Mac before that.

Similarly, Altman/Ive have released zero information about their device, whatever it is, what it does, why it's useful, and who it's for. Their announcement is just a tease that they're doing something they think is interesting - and having fun doing it.

Ive and Altman aren't lightweights. I'm waiting to see what they're developing before passing judgment.

Exactly, and that’s the point.
They didn’t have to go around bragging that they’ve got the best thing ever years before they ever finished it and had it working and in people’s hands.
Even a month before Steve introduced the iPhone, he was still saying that there was no current plans for an iPhone, or they had nothing to say on that topic. That’s the difference.
Meanwhile, with this Open AI thing, they’re babbling about a product that might not launch for another 24, 36, 48, 60 months. Before you know it we’re in 2028 and it’s still perpetually two years away, if it hasn’t been canceled or absorbed into some other thing by then.
Johnny was at Apple for AirPower, that’s essentially what this product is.

and to me, there's a difference between being curious what an actual product can do vs being curious about how some "non-lightwieghs" hype and talk in superlative about, nothing ... but to each their own, I just don't play that hype game

Their hype and talk don't bother me at all. If Altman/Ive having fun floats their boat and drives public curiosity, that's fine with me.

The *point* I'm making is I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a very interesting device. And that forum pundits reflexively panning it, based on zero information, goes back to when iPod/iPhone/iPad/Watch/etc were introduced, with information, and is a forum tradition going back 20+ years.

So it is a pet rock?

A mind-reading, always recording pet rock you want to lick.

Ugh, my visual imagination itches.
