He's been locked up in the design room for too long, with Cook yelling at him "make it better!"

I mean, we all know he's full of it when he says stuff like this, but I am definitely impressed with the X. Really beautiful phone and great tech inside. Should be interesting to see where they go.

Over the past ten years iPhone has transformed from a simple telephone/internet/music device to become something much more integral to daily life.
Totally agree, and because if this, I keep trying to think of a more apropos label for these devices: ‘phone’ is far too myopic, and ‘pocket computer’ is too cumbersome.

Maybe a ‘link’, as in, “Hey, do you have your link on you?”

Thoughts?

The lying #&!?@${!

In all seriousness, what he means is they didn’t wait until the 10th anniversary to do this. But they definitely made sure they got it out for 2017 and not later/a year earlier!

That’s what a popular near-future series of books calls it.

Ive went on to say the replacement of Touch ID fingerprint recognition, which has featured in all iPhone models since iPhone 5s, equates to a heightened user experience, with Face ID being the culmination of years of work towards a non-contact user interface.

Ive concluded by saying he doesn't think of the iPhone X as the ultimate expression of "iPhone", rather it represents a new chapter in the platform's history.

I'm reading voice and gestures into this. Siri voice recognition still needs work.
Let's see how well FaceID performs in the real world.

I love all these posts: “Apple said this or that but I know better and it’s all a big disinformation-driven corporate conspiracy.” It’s not clever to reflexively call someone a liar.

If I am being brutally honest...I am purposefully not going for the X...went for the 8plus due to screen size and the overall size of it....

I will wait thank you for the Xplus with edge to edge screen and apple pencil integration.....thanks Future...I love ya ;-)

I also think iPhone 8 isn't necessary, but because they know X will have parts delayed (e.g. screen), the 8 is just there.

For myself, I'm very glad the 8 is there. This is my year to upgrade and the X is chock-full of functional compromises, and just looks stupid IMO. If the only new phone this year was the X, I'd buy the 7.

Is he serious? So if the iPhone X was ready last year it would’ve been out then? On the 9 year anniversary? Yeah right.

Apple has a plan. Who is he trying to fool lmao.
Well he does work for apple. Sometimes things are not that complicated to understand

He forgot to mention that in-display TouchID is the most difficult. It’s very difficult that it didn’t made it to the final product. I would say this is BS!

Based on chatters with Apple employees, Touch ID was dropped last minute due to yield issues. It wasn't suppose to be that way. But I would like to see a discussion on why they thought it's okay to drop TouchID and go 100% with FaceID.

I find it interesting that even though the iPhone 8 was announced alongside the X (ten), that technically X is following after the iPhone 7 similarly to how there was Final Cut Pro 7 and then suddenly Final Cut Pro X...

Executives, politicians etc lie all the time. It’s life. Not calling the man a “liar” per say, but just that Apple knows what they’re doing... For the most part.

You’re right. All I’m saying is they probably wanted to do something big for the anniversary. And it just so happened that things they invested in years ago allowed them to do it this year.

If they were being faithful to the spirit and wishes of Steve Jobs, then yes he is serious. Jobs famously hated anniversary products, and looking back at where a company had come from, instead focused solely on looking forward. The first thing he did when returning to Apple was banish the "museum" to Stanford and kill the TAM.

New Goal Posts: non-contact platform

Nice he goes public with this

Yes he is serious.
Do you think if they had this technology ready one or two years ago, they would wait risking the competition to approach?

You don’t know business.
YES, this technology being ready on an iPhone IS a coincidence with the tenth anniversary.

Even Apple can’t afford a technology like this in the drawer for one or two years.
It was a coincidence a technology like this being ready with the tenth anniversary.

Nice post. Agree but how much they added in hw at expense of sw - this did seem intentional because customers anticipate 10th anniversary. Still it only supports your statement that business does not want to sit on this tech if the customer expects it from timing/competitors/etc. ty
