It's justified? That is just your opinion, it is not fact. You might think or assume that this is a case of Ive just phoning it in, but in reality you have no idea about what effort went into creating this. .........
Not everything that is true design needs to take 1000 hours and be accepted by everybody as pretty.

Says the art connoisseur from the country that brought us Tulip mania.
Even Picasso admitted to creating con art for the gullible at times.

The beauty of art is always a matter of opinion, never fact. Denouncing the prevailing opinion in this thread and seeking adulation for your "true design" assessment, just invites more ridicule. But even ridicule can be fun and sometimes even intended by a designer. Lighten up! It's a provocative colour and people are talking about it. I'd guess Ive isn't the least be insulted.

Good for him for trying to raise money for charity but yellow is now a "design"? It used to just be a color.

Jony Ive's design team has created a one-of-a-kind 12.9-inch iPad Pro, iPad Pro Smart Cover, and Apple Pencil holder that will be auctioned off as part of a fundraiser for the London Design Museum, reports Wallpaper.

The iPad Pro has been anodized with a bright yellow dye, making it unique among Apple's standard color lineup of Space Gray, Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold. Compared to the Gold iPad Pro, it's a much brighter, more vibrant shade of yellow.

Accompanying the yellow iPad Pro is Smart Cover made from a blue French leather and an Apple Pencil ensconced in an orange Italian calf leather case. According to the auction listing, the iPad Pro's back and the Smart Cover are etched with the words "Edition 1 of 1."

The iPad Pro has an estimated value of GBP10,000 - 15,000, the amount it is expected to fetch at auction. It will be available to bid on starting on April 28.

Apple has donated specially designed items for charity auctions several times in the past, with Jony Ive creating a red Mac Pro and solid gold EarPods, among other items.

Using a different color = designed? Did Ive pay for this article?

Keep in mind that Ive is a "C" level now. I seriously doube he actually does anything outside sit in meetings and pass judgement on the designs of others. They're paying/paid him a lot of money to do what Apple does best, sell a story/idea/brand/life style. He was supposed to be the inspired artist behind Steve's vision. They're just keeping the party going for as long as the iPhone buying public will buy it.

I agree, making it yellow doesn't seem all that impressive. Reminds me of this paintings in museums that's just the same color across the entire thing. Now, if Jony did his own Mona Lisa or Sistine Chapel style design, or made a really interesting pattern out of diamonds, that would be one thing. Just making it yellow doesn't seem like something people would come to fundraiser for.

Thinking there should have been a pair of Ipad Pros, one of each size, both with 4g ram, both with the better camera, yellow might not seem so bad.

Great ad hominem. Way to discuss this in a constructive way.

Ahh, good to see Jony is spending his time well. Perhaps the Brit may want to stop hanging with the fashionistas of Europe and designing toasters for non-profits and get back to WORK. Apple is losing it, their products are looking stale and haven't had a true unique look since the iPhone 4/4S. Hell, the Galaxy S6/7 looks better than the 6/6S, even the new phones by HTC, LG and Huewai look better than the iPhone 6. The iPad's have changed in design since the departure from the first iPad. And no, getting thinner and rounding an edge isn't re-design, it's an evolutionary step.

Jony Ive has apparently really stepped out of the limelight to spend more time with his family and to be in England. Which I get, family is important, but when your name is the sole hope that products still have style and you're not there doing the work anymore, then it's time to just retire. Which we all know will have a greater impact on the stock than when Steve Jobs died. At least when Steve past, we all knew Jony (his design and visionary equal) was still at the helm of the product designs. Once he goes, the company will be lost, which I believe has already happened with his latest promotion, i.e. sabbatical.

[doublepost=1461004964][/doublepost]Why the big fuss... simply because Jony Ive and team called the manufacturer and said, "add more dye to one batch", that's makes it unique? And the blue cover...I have seen that color covers on Amazon for months. What ever.
