I like the cover, and the pencil holder. But that iPad is gross. If someone gave this to me I'd use a case to cover it up.

i think the way that this story is being reported has a lot to do with the way that this thread has evolved.
yes. the colours are bright. and jarring. but as has been pointed out in this thread by others, the Organisation on the receiving end undoubtedly very much appreciates these exact colours.

the point of this taking up space in a rumours thread is this:
the anodised yellow is probably a case left over from a wide wide array of anodised samples that were used to select the actual anodised colours we now have.

for myself, i want to see the iPhone anodised colour range extended to include copper and lime green, and, orange.

its likely that jony did not "design" this. he signed off on it. for charity. its unique. and wonderful. its not for retail. but for us in this rumours thread is what other colours they are possibly being thought about.

My post was based off of more than just the photo. It was also based off of the materials mentioned in the article and the process used to dye them. I'm was trying to maintain some objectiveness by taking about the processes of dying different finishes. Although, I do actually like the colors.

And his past donations for the project RED campaign included a red Mac Pro and Rose Gold EarPods. None of which included any new design expect a new color.

It is about taste when it comes to visual appeal but you can't deny the craftsmanship.

The antenna's still white and looks out of place. Greeeat craftmanship!

PS - do a DDG search for custom iPad colours. Many 3rd parties could do this same colour.

Agreed. The first think I noticed prior to the color was the LTE Antenna. It's a one off, no? You leave that "White Slab" on there? I think Jony let Newsome do this one on the QT. ;)

The cynicism is strong in this thread...

It's justified. The article uses the term 'design'... when all that was done was change the color. The 'cynics' in this case are just being real. If sites like macrumors are going to puke out words like 'design' for this nonsense, then we are devaluing language.

Words are used to create meaning and understanding. If words are used this carelessly, then what's the point.

On another note, I just 'designed' a new car... it's a toyota corolla ... the body, engine and interior are all the same, but on the outside it's pink with blue dots on it.

Not sure if anyone else posted this, but this iPad reminded me of other limited edition Apple product...

Calf leather? Uhh does that make it special? Softer? I dunno, theres something grotesque about liking what is essentially a child's skin or flesh more than regular leather/meat. Like eating calf meat in a wedding... You're celebrating your love and union by eating children. :S ...Is it just me?

If this was an iPhone I'd say Apple really phoned this one in. Ive must have been staring at his Golden St. Warriors schedule when the donation request came though. :D

I was just going to post this and wondered first if anyone else thought of it. You did! Team colors yellow and blue. The orange represents the basketball. Nod to the California team's recent record breaking achievement. Otherwise, its a god awful ugly color combo IMO. I did love the look of the red Mac Pro and the gold earbuds.

I will add that design/art sometimes is meant to promote discussion. Guess this grouping did that.

Now I had an all white snow mac that I absolutely loved the look of. :) At first I didn't care for the shape but it quickly grew on me and when the Snow mac came out, well it was my next Mac at the time. I bet Kids probably loved the pattern ones for their rooms.

I hated the design of the boob Mac, but the moving screen on that machine was really cool. My rMBP looks worlds better than my first Powerbook 140. Design evolves but somethings become classics.

Kool-Aid colours!!

Proof if ever that it was needed that he's been drinking too much of the stuff...

So they expect to get up to 10K-15K pounds for it. Isn't whatever time Ive spent on it probably worth a lot more than 10K pounds? I'm assuming his compensation package is worth tens of millions of $ per year. Thus, this project would seem to be a money loser. Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper for Apple to just donate the 15K?
