I like those Brit guys who know just the right shade of red for his lady's lip stick colour. Bravo. I wouldn't want one. Too much red. Bull fighter types with tight pants love it I guess.

While this is cool, I just don't see where it deserves as much coverage as it's gotten. Some rich guy is going to over bid for a one of a kind Mac and write it off on his taxes.....meh.

I wonder what idiot will overpay for this.

Personally I wouldn't blow my money on it. Even if I was a billionaire. And I'm an Apple fanatic!

If I were a billionaire, I would. $60K is nothing!

I jumped the gun earlier when I criticized Ive for 'designing' this Mac Pro, when it was MacRumors that took some liberty with the way they titled the article.

The Sotheby auction page reads "Selected and customised by Jony Ive and Marc Newson for the (RED) Auction 2013."

Kudos to Ive and Newson for making an effort to help Apple support Product (RED).

A noble effort indeed.

But the money is going to charity so the cheaper way would just be less money for charity.

So Ive customized a product he no doubt was involved in designing in the first place. I fail to understand why people are getting so hung up on one word. OMG MacRumors used the word designs when they should have used customizes! What a travesty!

The Leica design I get, and kudos for Jony for being involved with that.

What we have here is a paintjob. And given apple have been selling the red line for years, it was not that difficult picking the actual colour.

What exactly did Jony Ive design here??? They got a new Mac Pro off the assembly line, look it over to the assembly line that paints the red line of iPods,.... Design complete ;)

It looks like a ship from the Emperor's Imperial guard in Star Wars or...

a futuristic portable heater?

I don't care what color or what shape it is, I just want the power under the hood

Damn!
Apple has a HUGE future with the Mac Pro if the funky colors start coming out.....pink,white,camouflage....

That'll be $40,000 please.

Perched right atop the intense heat source of the GPU. Totally good idea.

Right??
Can hardly believe Apple hires high school dropouts as engineers....
Then should hire YOU!!!! Your ideas are amazing.

New to being an Apple fan?

Apple and heat problems go back decades, mostly because of Jobs' hatred of fans, and his love of form over function.

Heck, look at the iPhone. What other phone on the planet has this screen?

You can like Apple products even while finding things that could be improved. They're not mutually exclusive.

Just imagine that he said take it apart and anodize it. There are companies that do this already with other apple products.

So what? Your point is that a One Off Red Anodized MP for the best run non Philanthropic Charity on the Planet is somehow a Futile Exercise in Design?

Please, it was a nice idea that was not very difficult to realize. It's about raising Money through his celebrity status. Not designing the iPhone 6 with Willow Glass.:apple:
