I wonder if this is going to be a maxed out new Mac Pro. 12 cores, 1TB SSD, 64GB of RAM, and the top end graphics cards.

Of course for whoever buy's this configuration there should be a choice of color ;)

It would have been nice if Ive came up with something cool like this Lian Li case:

Or a Santa sled, or something. With a Rudolph. "Design" as used in this promo, well.

Except that everybody complained about skeuomorphisma already.

Never understood ProductRED.

Who wants to be reminded about about people dying of AIDS when they are trying to enjoy their unnecessary expensive consumer widget?

Besides, the only way to stop premature death in Africa long term is to allow them to develop infrastructure - water, good housing, sewerage, education, a bigger middle class - rather than selling them vaccines and AIDS drugs.

The only bad thing about this is that it - presumably - prevents Apple from releasing a red Mac Pro for general use. Otherwise whoever buys this would be mightily pissed off.

I'd love a white Mac Pro, or gold. Or even orange. Or even ANY Mac Pro.

Worth $40K+?

Maybe for the profligate. I'd say it's worth $1999.

the lowest spec black one is $2999.99 so you're of by quite a bit.

if i bought it i'd never unbox it. is 20 years it would be worth at least $100,000. of course being the it benefits a charity it may sell for more than that.

first, i'm pretty sure the feeling you should get is good that you are making a small contribution to help. second. we don't sell vaccines they are given free to patients.also the us government and other nations give aid for the other things you mention. project red is a charity concerned with aids care and prevention.

Yeah the apple bras probably uses the same logic.

Well I donated either in taxes or person a lot more then 0.065% of my net income.

My point is that this is absolute BS, BS to make some people feel as if they actually do something to help. But when it really matters those same people will save any penny in taxes for apple or for themselves.

Hypocrits .

Even if its for charity, they should atleast offer something that is more valuable instead of simply changing color and put more 0s on the price tag. I mean come on now, high-end version starts from $4k and i doubt they can configure it up to $30k worth of components.

Would you buy a chocolate bar for $50k because its for charity?

I think that the main point here is being over-looked. This is NOT the only charity that Apple donates to. I too donate more that 15% of my income, but does the amount really matter? It's nice that at least one of Apple's charity campaigns is getting attention, which is helping to contribute more to the charity. There is symbolism in the items being "purchased", like the RED Mac Pro, or the mentioned "chocolate bar". Figure it out.

They give because they pretend to care, but in fact the amount they give is so low and needs so high it basicly comes to nothing.

While apple actually can spend to give a whole lot more. 100 million on lawsuits, tens of millions on lobbyists or the tens of billions it keeps overseas to not pay taxes on it.

It all screams profit making machine, so this paltry charity remains that.

What a miserable person.

Buy a $40k chunk of any asset that grows with inflation and you will do better than that ;)

The buyer will put it in a glass museum and then charge people to view it, would you go to see it?

Just checked my lottery ticket...

Nope! Still not my turn to get something pretty... Next week maybe ^^.

If they really want to help out Product (RED), why don't they just mass-produce this red version? I'm certain it will sell like crazy.

The goal might not be raising money but raising awareness. This is one way to keep the product red Program in the media. Let's face it the last thing you want to have happen as a charity is to have people forget about you.
