Jony Ive Discusses Design Philosophy, Relationship with Steve Jobs, and Future of Apple in New Interview

It's kind of fun to see computer people this close to a more traditional celebrity status.

Sure, he's not a household name like Lebron James, but I wouldn't mind seeing more celebrity status spread out to the likes of Ive, or Neil Degrasse Tyson if given the choice.

I wouldn't expect them to make a game changing product every year, but it's been about 7 making a 9.7" iPod touch is not considered an innovation.

it took them 17 years to make the iPod after the mac, then 6 years after that to make the iPhone.

Give it some time, Tim Cook said we would see new product categories this year.

"we spend a lot of time on a few great things, until every idea we touch enhances each life it touches." :apple:

Ive is very chummy with Marissa Mayer. I still think we might see a bigger collaboration between Apple and Yahoo in the future.

I think he should have already quit. I have yet to see another innovative product from apple since 2007 with the iPhone. Even then, the iPhone has kept the same design que and really has yet to make a drastic design change (in my opinion)
I'm sorry but I think you are being a bit blind sided here. Have you seen the new Mac Pro? That is engineering marvel and took some serious R&D to come up with that. And the internal design is amazing. Is that not innovative for you? If not then what do u call innovative?
Steve Jobs himself said that it took them 7 years to develop iPhone so what do u expect? Creating amazing product and make it perfect takes time. Thats why we have junk from others. Remember the time before iPhone? All were crap and nokia was best cause of its simplicity.

I don't think you'll be happy until Apple invents teleportation. And even when they do you'll say it took them too long. You're looking for a magician, not a tech company.

How about a new OS that features more than just a redesign. How about a simple feature like schedule test messages. How about an innovative project like Google is doing with Glass. How about something more than just updating a camera and processing power that nobody will use or notice at least and come out with innovative features like air gestures and eye detection. How about redesigning a new phone and not just come out with new colors and SLIGHT design changes every year. That's what I want. Sorry if I am asking to much.

You do realize there is a lot more to a camera other than megapixels right?

That just proves how right Samsung is in terms of making profit by raising the number of Megapixels, people just don't care how effective their Camera is just raise the number of MP and they're sold.

Apple doesn't care if it gives them more customers, they actually want their product to be great.

I know here is more than megapixels but it helps bring in a crisper picture when zooming in. The Galaxy S 4 camera btw is fantastic I had that phone for awhile.

Two words: 8MP Camera....
And? I hope you aren't suggesting that the quality of a camera is purely based on megapixels.

You can innovate current product categories. I can't think of any PC on the market that is built around a thermal core. I can't think of any PC All in one that is not only thin and light, but also has a GTX 780M.

As much as I dislike the move to more soldered parts, I'd definitely say the rMBP is pretty innovative. It's not only thinner than cMBP(which is already thinner than most PC laptops), but it also runs cooler than a rMBP with a High quad i7 while sporting a 2880x1800 display. I can't think of any PC computer that was like the rMBP before it came out.

The iPod was before the iPhone, really it's stayed the same since the iPhone except a different size and touch screen capabilities. Woah ... The macs are great computers and are fine, but not innovative. Retina macs are nice but you pay OTA for a better screen and smaller hard drive.

Yes of course. makes your point so well. You seem to have problems with expectation management and a misunderstanding of the roles of various management teams. The word "innovative" is also just so overused. The really cool stuff has always come from smaller companies. Some of them fail. The ones with really neat stuff either grow or are bought by larger companies, which are more risk averse. Take a look at how much stuff was bought up to create the iphone.

How about a new OS that features more than just a redesign.
If it were "just a redesign" then why were there so many betas with so many different bugs and new performance issues? It's a completely overhauled OS.
How about an innovative project like Google is doing with Glass.
Apple doesn't beta test products on the public
How about something more than just updating a camera and processing power that nobody will use or notice at least and come out with innovative features like air gestures and eye detection.
Oh, you mean like the Galaxy S4? You mean that gimmick feature that you NEVER EVER see ANYONE using? Is that what you're referring to? That's not innovation, that's a gimmick. Apple doesn't do gimmicks. "TouchWiz and S Pen" anyone? Why would you need air gestures on a device that you're holding anyway? Just for the sake of stupidity? Their idea of innovation is making the screen idiotically larger and larger and copying everything Apple does.
How about redesigning a new phone and not just come out with new colors and SLIGHT design changes every year. That's what I want. Sorry if I am asking to much.
You are, they're not creating a completely new phone every year. Things don't work that way. Current technology evolves until it's replaced with a new category of technology.

Your ignorance is showing.

So sad that you troll Apple sites.

I guess I should've known that posting a comment negative about the queen would ignite all the worker bees to start stinging

So sad that you troll Apple sites.

So sad that you think that. I actually have a iPhone 5s. I'm pretty sure as a consumer I have a right to my own opinion. What else would he point of forms be:cool:

hmm lets see ... you have 10 posts and 9 of them bash apple.

They were responding to people's comments. I'm not just going to ignore all of them. So 9 responses and 1 original post.

But I'll stop. I just had my own opinion and people went all apple nuts.

I think he should have already quit. I have yet to see another innovative product from apple since 2007 with the iPhone. Even then, the iPhone has kept the same design que and really has yet to make a drastic design change (in my opinion)

And yet... look at all the other companies who do nothing more than just release phone after phone... that are fairly similar to each other.

If Apple hasn't done anything innovative since the iPhone or the iPad... what can you say about everyone else who also stopped at phones and tablets?

Where's their innovative new products?

If Apple is slacking... so is everyone else.

ASUS made a laptop with Gorilla Glass on its.... lid.

That's innovative, right?

:D

Why does everyone think Apple should raise the dead every year? I'll bet the same people complaining haven't even used their iPhone or iPad to its fullest potential. I'm learning new things to do with my iDevices all the time.
