I think Watch is meant for a lot more than what we have seen so far. It probably won't be until 3rd or more likely the 4th generation where will see better integration between it and our other devices.

I see Apple taking making the soul device to identify you. You will use this to control your TV by walking into a room and the TV will displaying your favorite tv shows or music. You will walk up to your Macbook or iMac and the computer will unlock it self.

I can see being integrated with Apple's Car Play similar to what I mentioned about the TV.

Later revisions will offer GPS and quite possibly cellular connectivity once battery life greatly improves. Getting one of these for each family member will give you the ability to track your kids at all times.

I strongly believe Apple has HUGE plans for this. Its not just a time piece or a gimmick. Its literally meant to attach you to everything.

I also see this being connected far more with your cell phone in a different way. Your calls and text messages will go to the nearest device where your Watch is closest to, similar to what Apple is already doing with Yosemite but more streamlined.

Eventually Watch will be integrated with HomeKit. Your body temperature will be measured and your home will adjust its heat or air conditioning to make you more comfortable.

I can also see this being connected to your coffee maker. As you wake up in the morning your Watch will sense you coming out of sleep and will trigger your coffee maker to kick in.

I see big things for this. Obviously right now its in its infancy.

How are you going to get over the issue of the screen being too small to see or use comfortable for many people?
There is a reason we don't all have phones now with less than 2" screens.

I think it's odd that Robert Sullivan would refer to Tim Cook as the "new CEO" when referencing the launch of the Apple Watch on September 9th. How long does he have to be there before he's not "new"?
Same as many workplaces. He'll stop being "new" when there is somebody even newer.:)

WRONG! There were so many mp3 players already on the market before the iPod came out. What made it a success? Vertically integrated environment.

The iTunes store is actually what made the iPod desirable. Until then, having an MP3 player was one thing. But there was no integrated ecosystem to leverage. Most people who had MP3 players at that time ripped their own/shared online. There might have been a few places to buy mp3 music - but it certainly wasn't what iTunes was at launch.

I do think the Apple Watch is going to flop. I just don't think there is going to be a wide adoption of folks who want to start wearing watches. I think it is going to be a bit too nerdy and awkward.

and. . .I'm going to be a bit creeped out if people start sending me their heartbeat. . . What am I supposed to think when that happens. New creeper threat vector IMO.

That's what everyone said iPad was going to flop. It's just a big iPod. lol

I look forward to learning why I need this device. Right now I just don't get why I need a device which is tied to my smartphone to get anything done. Just seems redundant...

If you don't have a need for it, don't buy it. Good Grief! No company ever expects everyone to buy every new product they produce.

Yes I was going to say the same thing. If I get a watch, please do not send me your heart beat. this just seems wierd.

It is gimmicky but repeatedly emphasizing it subtly gets across several features.
The device communicates to others.
The device measures your heartbeat.
The device has haptic feedback.

I don't wear a watch regularly. But I do wear a heartbeat monitor (yeah, a kind of watch) but only during training.

I'd bet the folks at Polar are paying attention...

My sense is the Apple watch won't be the next iPod or iPhone but maybe more like the AppleTV.

This is like asking how you're going to use a 3.5" iPhone for anything useful because the screen is too small compared to a 15" PC monitor.

I just can't see this device being successful. I hope I'm wrong because if it fails , it will be apples epic fail and be a stinky dead albatross around their neck for the life of the company.

It will not fail. It will evolve into something great. This is just a simple foundation for what's to come.

Many said that the Newton was a total failure. But it evolved into the iPad along with technology. The Newton was but a crude initial try at an iPad. The same will happen with the :apple:Watch.

Well, the photo MR has chosen to illustrate this article is from June 2014, three months before the Apple watch was announced. So it's not really surprising.

Edit: It does look like a Marc Newson watch though.

Definitely looks similar to the JLC he customised for the auction:

While I was thrilled Apple finally increased the size of iPhone displays, I was quite underwelmed by the :apple:Watch. It as basically what people have been speculating about for over a year and not all that much different than AndroidWear devices.

I thought the watch itself looked oddly thick for a company obsessed with thin and the shear number of lines (Regular, Sport, Edition) and bands seemed a little excessive for an Apple product line. We'll see how it goes, but I have little interest in the first gen version of this.

Where will your iPhone be, Apple Watch is said to be an extension of it?

I see a lot Redundancy, but don't get me wrong, I'm all for the Apple Watch and I will get one. Just going to wait for the dust to settle after it's release!

Jony Ive Discusses Steve Jobs and Apple Watch in Vogue Interview

If what they presented at the keynote surprised and amazed you (in a positive way) then you must be the kind of person that is impressed when they say "the new iPhone has a faster processor and is thinner and lighter!"

This was not thinking different, this was so predicable and un-revolutionary that I was shocked and amazed, but not in a positive way.

Jony once said that when they are working on new products, they are careful about what they call them. This is because your design can be biased by old paradigms when you reference something that already exist. I guarantee you that from day 1 they were calling this the Apple watch because that's what we got, a variation on watches. It's not revolutionary and at least to me, not compelling. It could have been so much more. If I was on the team and spent three years coming up with this, I would be embarrassed.

You took the words right out of my mouth. There is no way I would have ever allowed the Apple Watch to follow an ancient form factor like wrist watches of the 20th century. The evolution of tech and the human mindset that goes along with it demands a form factor that is new and fresh, not tired and boring.

I will concede that the Apple Watch is aesthetically pleasing to a lot of people. However, to a non watch wearing person like myself the Apple Watch looks tired and old fashioned. I was hoping for a wearable device that ran away with the fitness tech industry along with unparalleled battery life but what we got was a device that mimics ancient technology, allows users to look at photos, send heartbeats and fails at battery life.

UGH! I'll be upgrading my Nike FuelBand in the near future. I was holding off for the Apple Watch but this current iteration holds no value for me because it's just to damn fancy for my tastes. I'm crossing my fingers that Apple gives us a true, innovative fitness tracking device in the future. I'll cross my fingers but I won't hold my breath.

I really like him as a designer, but in recent times he has been doing too much interviews and it starts to sound repetitive
