However, this environmental nonsense is the mother-of-all public relations snow-job

According to the recent GreenPeace evaluation they are doing better than almost everyone else.

Ive makes this sound like a bloody humanitarian project . It's actually a corporate chain whose sole purpose is profit, which is A-OK, but at least be honest about it.

That store looks beautiful. Minnesota has 5 stores but 4 of them are located in shopping malls so they get hardly any makeovers.

And if Steve Jobs was still around everyone would be praising these stores they’re now pissing on.

Sure, it's a cool space, but I sure wish Apple would focus this energy on product design instead of political causes and making social spaces for people to hang out.

If it were really "Urban" they would be robbed blind regularly.

Have you seen the crime stats for Chicago lately? LOL

Reviving Urban Connections? Its an island all unto itself. How does that connect anything? Its like plopping down a Walgreens or McDonald's building in a city setting. lol.

They're becoming Apple shrines not stores
The idea is they have sessions where you can go and learn the creative arts, graphics, photography, film making, music, and even basic programming from experts.

Most companies want you to browse, buy their product, and then get out of the store. Apple wants you to learn how to use it.

"better than almost everyone else"

It is too late for you.... they already got you.

For the record, if I pour 10 gallons of gasoline down the drain, and my neighbors pour 11 gallons:
... I too am "Doing better than everyone else"

They need to stop with these ********, hyperbolic, self inflating statements. Reviving urban connection. Please, Chicago is a world-class city. What are you reviving over here?

Here's an idea. Let's revive the battery life under iOS 11.

Hey... watch it, buddy. This is not a store. It's a town square... or is it town center... or maybe town centre? Either way... it's more than a store, for sure. You don't go there to buy stuff. You go there to be amazed and delighted. Jeez... get it right already.
It would be Ye Olde Towne Squate

you're forgetting, that there are many people, on the site, and allover the world who do revere Apple in almost religious fever and that Steve Jobs was Jesus re-incarnate. Apple is the Church, and Sir Jonny Ive is the first Apostle.

Can I get an Amen?
Well there is that one little thing like this: Thou shalt have no other gods before me. So maybe no Amen.

Angela Ahrendts is the epitome of what is wrong with Apple.

Are you going to buy the Apple watch 3 because of the store, or the freakin battery life and LTE. Are you going to stay with iOS because of it's utility and ease of use, or is Android's personal assistant so much better than siri that it's actually a feature you want to switch over. Things like this Apple consumers question them selves.

Apple has made a bunch of money, and is wasting it on the likes of Angela who ADDS NO value to the Apple ecosystem. This is just another bad Tim Cook decision. Can't wait till a Apple has a real CEO again.

p.s Store is nice. Personally, you could plate it with gold but it wouldn't make up for crappy siri, dongle galore, and products that reduce functionality for design. I hope Angela release the next killer innovation from Apple, the islab. A tablet with no screen, just a slab of the best polished Aluminium in the world - best fashion accessory too!

Yes, Angela Ahrendts is the epitome of Apple's approach. She has taken the retail stores to a whole new level and they are now the most profitable in the entire world per square foot revenue by a mile and are still growing. Foot traffic is likewise setting records, and they are winning design awards. Like most of the Apple lineup, their competitors have been left in the dust, not even on the same playing field anymore, and their profits and revenue have grown so large that the biggest monopoly problem Apple has is that the mass of other companies are complying to regulators that Apple's cash horde is so large Apple is taking up all the space in the bank vaults around the world.

Now, back to your idea to petition the board to fire Angela for such poor performance ...

This.
As I apparently am the only rube so far to ask: Are those walls bullet-proof?

If you were talking far south or near west in Chicago and you are black, you would need to worry about gun violence. But North Michigan Ave is not exactly the crime riddled area you're making it out to be. 20 years ago, the areas next to the river, including lower Wacker, were tough places to be with lots of homeless people, but that's not been the case for a long time.

Just have a cart selling red hots in front of that glass and it will all be OK. Of course, it will attract birds that will slam dead into the glass. Oh messy.

You're explaining what Ron Johnson and Steve Jobs did, not Angela.

It means that the Chicago River Walk use to have many stores and restaurants and now its not even used. This is definitely a big step.

That's utterly false -- the Chicago Riverwalk is hugely popular, every restaurant/bar space is filled, and there are people enjoying it 24 hours a day. It's one of the best attractions in the city.

So many negative nancies here. I'm guessing MacRumors' commenters have never been to a store opening to get their t-shirt and high five the staff and go to workshops in the theatre and line up for OSX Releases and talk about the new stores at their Mac User Group meetings and countdown the days to the next Macworld and Steve jobs presentation.

Those were the good days of Apple and while Apple is larger than ever, so many of its customers have no appreciation for all of the passionate customers who made this possible. And those of us who still get excited about a store opening are called sheeple and idiots and told "it's just a store" It's not just a store. We love Apple. Don't bring us down with all of your negativity about how crapy Apple is. If you don't want a relationship with your technology company, use Windows.

I like what apple continues to try to do which is form a relationship with their customers.

I kinda wonder how many people here have actually "experienced" the new retail since Angela took over. When the Macbook redesign came out, Best Buy had their first units in store before Apple Store. Apple Store said "you can order it online" ... When the MacBook Pro TB came out, Best Buy had their first units in-store before the Apple Store. I was able to buy Beats X at Best Buy before I could get them at Apple Store.

The combination of supply chain and store experience drive me insane. The stores used to be so good at getting stock so quick, and now it feels like they're the last to get them. The stores used to be so good at everyone does everything, activate phones, process returns, ring you up... now they've gone to this model where if you walk in and just want to buy an iPhone outright (a simple scan barcode and swipe credit card just like buying a cable) you have to wait for someone special. I bought last month as a replacement, and they made me wait for an iPhone "specialist" for 30 mins meanwhile there were 10+ employees with payment terminals just standing around doing absolutely nothing.

Sorry for my rant, but I'm no longer a fan of Apple Retail stores.

Except the Apple Store concept is nothing new now and the new design is only an incremental update. It's like getting excited about a new 56k modem. If only they could make the space bar work on their laptop, then we'd be on to something.
