Go ahead and laugh, but you might want to watch the movie Her first. In it, people interact with a computer using nothing but voice (a microphone and speaker) and a camera. Almost like interacting with another human being.

Think about it. How do you interact with a person, if you think in terms of their interface? You talk to them. You listen to them. They see you. You see them.

The sound will be lousy.
The on/off switch will break if house dust (or bread crumbs) get in to it.
BUT - It WILL BE THIN

Everyone has seen Her. It looks dystopian; I don't want to interact with computers like that.

Additionally, how is a voice interface going to work in public places, in an office, a hospital, etc.? It's way too public for anything other than home, and it's only private there if you live alone.

Genuine question, why would one hate him so much? I see this everywhere but never any reasons given.
Well for one thing he deliberately guided openAI from a non-profit through, functionally, a very shady pathway to a for-profit company that just so happens to stand to make him one of the richest men on the planet. He’s also overruled the privacy and security measures openAI had in place

And he’s one of the collection of rich folks, tech barons, along with Musk, the Ellisons, Karp and Thiel, Huang, Nadella, Pichai, etc who are directly responsible for this utterly insane money loop creating the AI bubble and all the supply chain issues (most obviously RAM right now), datacenter over-buildouts, power grid strain, etc that come with it. All for a product that has no path to financial viability, but in an effort to try is pushing generative AI into everywhere and turning the world into AI slop

On the bubble issue and RAM costs btw, here’s a post I saw that I screenshot that I think said it best

yes, but think of all failed devices as well, 99%.. not all "geniuses" create "genius" devices.

even the people that made computers did not know its potential.

I personally think smart home is the future. but are they really doing something different? we know 0% about the supposed thing that doesn't exist yet. its just an ideia still.

In fact, this is all for the infusion of eyes, a real AI product will never be available to ordinary people, the tool will always be in the hands of influential organizations, both public and not

If by real AI you mean actual AGI I have doubts that it will be achievable anytime soon, or even in my lifetime. It’s not going to be limited to influential orgs and people because it’s not going to exist absent a major groundshaking breakthrough

If you mean more advanced generative AI, of course it will be for the public, the costs are so high and so much money has been sunk that these companies desperately need to claw their way to profitability or die. Even the largest governments cant save them, the costs we’re talking about are in the trillions. The big problem is the public doesnt really want it (me included), at least not at the scale and ubiquity these companies need to have viable products

To go along with that display

Why is it that when someone that's not Apple does something, it's dumb and nobody wants or asked for this.

But when Apple does it, it's "Oh, I cannot wait." (see: folding iPhone)
I’m able to see that both are dumb. Get on my level
