They could announce the new 12" MBA with a release date of early April. That would take it into Q2 and it would mean it would be in the Apple Stores in time for the Apple Watch launch. So people going in to the store to buy the Apple Watch would see the new MBA and hopefully buy one as well. They've done that before a few times to try and boost Mac sales around new iOS device launches while the Apple stores are busy.

Who writes these posts? WSJ says:

"While suppliers are gearing up to ship the new 12-inch MacBook Air in large quantities in the second quarter, Apple’s launch schedule remains unclear, the people said."

The second quarter starts April 1, about 3 weeks after next week's event. How this translates to the laptop not being available until June, the end of the quarter I'll never know. And it says "in large quantities," ie, full production takes a little while to ramp up, as usual.

I agree. This article does not necessarily mean no new MBA anouncement on Monday. Apple have done many marketing events, with products due to become available a few weeks later.

Before Apple media events, speculation often goes wild. This is another example.

Alright Jim Dalrymple - We're stupid if we believed the most credible recent rumours before today?

Yep :)

The MacBook Air's on sale right now are having a refresh, releasing the new Retina Air would draw customers away from Air refresh.

They are not gonna update the Air's coming Monday and than wait another 3 months to release the new 12 inch Air. They can lose a lot of customers that are gonna update their Airs in the next weeks instead of buying the new 12 inch in about 3 months. Updating the Air's and announcing the new 12 inch (instead of releasing) would make more sense to me than just update the Air's and wait another 3 months for the new 12 inch...

Post a million rumors and then you're bound to be correct for at least one of them...

I gotta admit. I have no idea why people come to a rumour site and moan when they post rumours.
By definition a rumour is something doubtful. That means that the next rumour or even the one after, the one after that might be the right one?

I can imagine a 12" rMBA with CoreM in June, with i5-i7's for Air released months ago and Skylake for the Airs arround the corner... That'd be a funny thing to see :D

Unless the Apple watch launches this March which I doubt, then I reckon the Retina MacBook air will still launch next week.

What makes the Michael Report more credible than any other rumor?

Anyone who thought we'd see a new Air at this upcoming event is kinda stupid. It's for one thing; and one thing only, the Apple Watch.

Apple holding a two hour event only for the watch which they spent 1 hour last year revealing would be stupid.

Okay so 30 minutes stage time for a watch that they already talked about last year? I hope not. :(

Sorry I meant 2 hours

Oy, who ya callin' stoopid, stoopid?
Unless you're a stage hand setting up the demos for this Monday, you're as much in the dark as anyone else.
That's why we all come here to MR to speculate and discuss *rumors*.
Right or wrong.... it makes no one here stupid.

Retina MacBook Air is good..

But, what we really want is a REAL refresh on the MacBook Pro lineup using the latest Broadwell Processors and NVIDIA 900M series graphics..

MacBook Pro refresh is wayyyyyy overdue..

Yeah...

I was just going to point out that 9to5mac also interpreted the small (vague) quote exactly the opposite of macrumors. They also believe that the quote means the new MBA could be announced next week.

I guess we'll see soon.

WSJ footnote suggests 12-inch MacBook Air could be announced by Apple as early as Monday

http://9to5mac.com/2015/03/05/12-inch-macbook-air-2

Which is the same exact WSJ quote that THIS article is based on, except 9to5mac is putting a completely opposite spin on it.

As usual - no one knows anything, and Apple rumors sites are desperately looking to turn every piece of non-news into a click baiting headline.

I'm going to quote this if they announce a new MacBook ar this event.
