You are right, I was under the understanding, falsely, that renewals would not be allowed to keep it.

Currently that's the case. Don't be surprised if in a year even renewals who already have unlimited are forced off it. After what ATT did this week, It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Don't think that will happen, the past practices/grandfathering rules apply. Loser for AT&T in a class action suit.
