Thats a good deal. I still haven't switched to Intel. I don't need too either. I almost bought a PowerMac G5 Quad for 500 but decided on the iMac.

Good for you though, lucky ******* :D

Thanks!

BTW...currently searching for an AGP video card if anyone has one...lol

ignore the haters. $60 is a great price, and I agree - it's not obsolete if it does what you want. but beware - those systems had some problems with the water cooling failing.

Good news so far...just got the cover off the processors, no signs of leaking within the cooling system. Hopefully the Power supply is the only thing holding it back

the support here is shocking and shows the fan boy culture to reccommend spending money on obsolete tech with no future and which is slower than used intel pieces. But, cults always have followers. Do some real research - even apple says it is obsolete.

Your wisdom truly knows no bounds...

Well even though it is obsolete technology a 2.7 Ghz Dual G5 probably has enough power to do about anything the average person would need to do. If you can find the parts cheap and get it up and running for not a lot of money I would say it is a good deal. Old stuff can be sort of fun sometimes no matter what it is.

Dude, $60 for a nice little project computer? With the price of hard drives constantly dropping, I'd slam a 1TB drive in it, replace the PSU with a used one from eBay and use it as a torrent slave and media server.

You can put a cheap video card in that thing too. Probably $300-500 when all is said and done. Hell I'd buy it in a second.

Awesome win, OP.

Right now I run Adobe CS4 on my Mini with VERY little problems, just a little slow at times, so I can't see how a machine that is at least twice as fast will hold me back at all! :)

Thanks, I'm hoping that its a simple job to get it running

I've got a 1/2 height one that came with a Dell Dimension 4300S. It's an ATi Rage something with 32 MB VRAM. I was going to remove the tab that screws to the computer and put it in my PowerMac, but then I found out the GeForce2 MX in the PowerMac had the same specs.

Is that a water cooled unit? If so, and it develops a leak, there's a slim chance Apple may assist you, even out of warranty. I was reading a thread about that very thing a few weeks ago I believe.

Good luck. It's not obsolete if it is useful to the owner.

Thanks for the offer...if I have to flash a video card to work for my mac, I think I'm going to go with one with some more RAM.

BTW...The info I've seen on flashing pc video cards has been very sporadic. Does anyone have any concrete info or know of someone that does it as a service from their mother's basement or something?

sbb... you're pretty much a douche.

At home I have a MP 2.8 8 Core, at work I use the exact machine you have - a 2.7 Dual G5 and guess what... it's really not much slower! For hard core, CPU intensive tasks my MP would spank it (obviously) but for what I do (web design) it works like a champ. I only regret that I can't run VMWare to check my work in IE - that's it! It has 4.5GB RAM, I never hit that ceiling, the hard drive is fine and it has the top GPU Apple offered at the time - it's a terrific machine that keeps up with me just fine. My at-home MP has a RAID0 boot, so it's 'snappier' in that respect, but overall task wise I don't have a problem with it at all.

You did buy an older, technically obsolete machine. Practically though? You got a terrific deal! It'll handle PS just fine (if you don't mind the G5 blast off sounds). Get that thing running and you'll love the difference between it and your G4.
