Send him $300 just to make sure he does the deal.

The OP is just as much a victim, though... It’s a difficult situation, because if the OP keeps it then the owner loses out on a phone they paid for, whereas if the owner gets it back the OP loses out on a phone he paid for too. Tricky.

Depends on how much the OP got the phone for, too... If it was 30 bucks, then the answer is simple. But if it was $500? Not so simple.

The amount paid does not matter. If it is stolen he received stolen goods. It amazes me how people, today, can reconcile things this way. People seem to have changed these days.

Nothing. That's realy all you can do. Nothing. I mean, I guess you could use it as a paperweight, or use it for skeet shooting. But you won't be able to use it as a phone.

buy him a horse and you should receive the password.

Actually the amount paid matters a lot.

In the Netherlands rule of thumb is approximately: if you buy a stolen device and if you could have known or could have suspected it was stolen (e.g. buy a brand new iPhone 6 for 20$) you are punishable by law as a buyer. It's called heling (fencing according to google translate?).

OP hasn't mentioned the price he bought it for, while multiple people asked.

Someone right now on my local craigslist is selling a brand new galaxy s6 for $250. I won't even bother trying to buy it.

It is simple. OP has someone else's property. What is with all of this moral relativism?

[MOD NOTE]
Closing as we all know what occurs with these type of threads.

Given that this one dates back to 2013 means we ought to move on as this will devolve
