Oh don't be too worry, you can always resell the 5 when the 5S released. IPhone has always a good resell value compared to another brand. Now just enjoy your shiny new iPhone and don't forget making money :D

Well, then by that same logic they can expect some of us to get sick of it and respond accordingly. The OP asked a specific question about his new phone and the coupon hunters immediately descended to berate him for his unwise purchasing decision...seems uncouth to me.

LOL coupon hunter? I drive a new 2013 BMW X5 35i premium vehicle... not bad for a coupon hunter??

The OP posted in a public forum where he asked for opinions... My opinion was that the OP's purchase wasn't smart...

I bought the iphone 5

I took advantage of a deal this past June in which I purchased it free of charge after trading in my 4S. Why? Because my 4S' battery was starting to go, I had to reset it more and free is free. Will I miss out on the 5S? Of course, but that doesn't bother me. My logic is that since I'm not one of those people that buys every iphone that comes out, I'm always going to miss out on a generation. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. IOS7 will run on the 5 without a hitch. And I LOVE my iphone 5 so I'm pretty happy.

What you drive is immaterial to me.

The OP asked

But I must ask; do you guys think the iphone 5 run the ios7 smoothly ?

Your response was that he's "not smart" for buying the iPhone 5 today instead of waiting. Not really what he was asking for opinions about.

I'm currently holding out for the next iPhone. But if my phone broke I would buy the 5 now without hesitation.

Never before have we had this kind of performance overhead. Previously, I found phones sluggish even when new. The 5 does not have this problem.

The next phone is likely to have non-critical enhancements and a performance increase that isn't necessary now.

Enjoy your phone.

Premium vehicle? Yea not so much, and thanks for giving us info that we could care less about. This forum is about iPhones not cars.

OP I say enjoy your phone, and I doubt you will regret your decision.

I am going to be buying two 5's, probably today, and yes, I know the 5S will be out in 2-3 months. Why? Because I will be immediately saving $80 off our current monthly bill. So by the time I can purchase a 5S I will likely have saved $240. If they discount the 5 $100 each at that time I am still up $40, and have had the use of new phones for 3 months. Sounds like a win to me.

So I succumbed to the lure of the iphone 5 and cant wait to get it.
But I must ask; do you guys think the iphone 5 run the ios7 smoothly ? Because Im guessing the payment plan is going to be the same on the new iphone 5s, so basically I bought the 5 for the same price as the new 5s will cost. Can my mind rest assured that im not missing out that much for the next 12 months?

Why buy a 5 when the next gen is in the works? Did ur existing phone die? You now have a 2 year commitment on a nearly 1 year old phone. I'd return it if I were u

Exactly, nothing annoys me more than people who insist that tech just stops working as soon as a new model is released. Guess what folks, the 5S is ALREADY obsolete, get over it. OP - yes, your phone will run iOS7 without a problem, every iPhone I've owned has lasted at least 4 years in active use and are all still perfectly functional.

Ok nothing annoys u more than that?:rolleyes:

Really do you think the iPhone 5S technology is going to be so much greater than the 5? Not a chance. It will be a spec bump, but look the iPhone 4 is still running strong, and I have not heard anything about it not being able to run iOS 7. Buying a year old iphone means nothing. Now if we were talking about an Android phone it might be a very different story, but iPhone can be great for a good 3 years.

OP congrats on the new phone! As you found out there are a lot of opinions around here, but almost everyone agrees that your phone will be one sweet ride! :D

There is a strong resell market so if you change your mind and upgrade you won't lose your shirt.

I am in a similar situation. I had been using the 3GS when it died on me early in November while working overseas. I used a cheap Nokia here expecting to upgrade to the 5S when I return to Canada permanently this fall.

However, I can get a $250 credit on buying a IP5 by end of July. this may make up for any resale value loss should I choose to upgrade to 5S later.

Technically this is kind of a bad example. The OP is worried about future OS upgrades. The 4 didn't get Siri when the 4S came out. Then when the 5 came out the 4S got everything but the 4 didn't get turn by turn/3d fly over.

The more I think about it the more I think it was a bad idea to get the 5 if OS upgrades are your biggest/only concern.

IF the 5S is a just a spec bump like you suggest then it will need to get a piece of exclusive software the 5 doesn't (like the 4S and Siri). If not then its basically the same phone and will be a total flop.

The S models have done better with software the the non S since they were first introduced. Current example is the 4S having ALL the software and features for 2 years while the 4 only went 1 year.

I have no doubt the 5 will get future iOS releases but like the past has shown us certain features will be left out.

iOS 7 was made with the iPhone 5 in mind, it had to have been.

Look at the keynote, all of the features touted were included.

You might not get the so called 2GB Ram, Quad core etc but what difference will that really make for now?

I'm guessing the most popular iPhone on the market is the 4S still, people still buy those in abundance, so they won't double step the 5 out of the way.

The iPhone 6 will be the one worth getting, that's when things will really change.

God, it's not a crime to buy a phone that's a few months away from being replaced! :p

To the OP - iOS 7 should run perfectly on the iPhone 5. There may be a few 5S-only features, but performance wise, they'll both be about the same.

agreed. in my opinion, hardware specs are leveling out with what is needed.

its all about UI now...
