Hey guys,
Just placed the order button on my latest (and greatest) Mac system to date: an PowerBook G4 1.67GHz 15" with a 30" Apple LCD to go with it!
The PowerBook is stock, with the exception of the updated Video RAM. I'll have to add regular RAM later, as I don't have any cash left after this $5K purchase!
I decided to go with the refurbished 30" display to save some money. I've bought things through the refurbished store on Apple with no problems before, and saving money is always good, so I thought I would go for it.
The total came out to $5075 after tax with edu discount. This is, by far, the biggest computer purchase I've ever made. In fact, it beats the 2nd biggest by $3,000. Yet, once it is set up, I am sure I'll have no remorse.
I also picked up a glass desk and leather chair from OfficeMax to go with it, although I am a bit concerned on how my neck will feel looking at a 30" screen all the time. Hopefully the desk/chair will work well with the big display. Can anyone shed any light on this?
I'm hoping I'll get it early next week. I actually wanted to pick it up in the store, just to make sure there was no problems (as I could open it at the store, and exchange it if necessary right there), but apparently, the only PowerBook model with the extra VRAM that they sell in stores is the Ultimate version, which includes the extra VRAM, 1GB of RAM, and a 100GB HD. I didn't find a need for the last two, and since the Edu. discount does not work with the Ultimate model, I just bought it online.
Now its the hardest part...waiting!
