Wow that's beautiful When I first read this thread like a week ago I thoguh it was a weird combination, but after seeing it, it's awesome, and it seems to make sense in your case.

To tell you the truth, I had some initial doubts as to how well my setup would work, having a portable with such a large monitor. While it can be annoying to unplug all of the cables (power, monitor, firewire, and USB) everytime I want to go portable, it doesn't matter, because the setup is SO kick ass 😀.

In Tiger, can the PowerBook drive the 30" in Portrait orientation?

That, by the way, is like having two 1600x1200 displays stacked on top of each other.... with vertical space left over 😱

It would be tempting to place a 17" PowerBook below that and have the world's tallest display... 3460 vertical pixels!

(Oops... I guess the tallest would be a PowerMac with TWO 30" stacked in portrait mode. 5120 vertical pixels and a strained neck! And then there are 3-monitor setups...)

Haha 😀. Yup, just tried it, and rotating works.

Great 🙂 Although without a VESA swivel stand, rotating is probably mainly good for practical jokes 😀

(BTW can you rotate the PB's internal display? Just for kicks?)

Unfortunately. I'm already seeing tons of smudges. Time to break out the Windex!
I get through a bottle of that stuff a month keeping mine clean
😛

Why can't you get the discount on the Ultimate model?

No idea; I called my local Menlo Park store, and the SoHo store, and they both told me the Edu. discount does not work on that model.
