It's like an extension cord, if your laptop is far away from power outlet then you can use it with your charging adapter (remove the other plug from the adapter to use this cord) to charge your macI think I am all set and navigating my way and learning more every minute on this laptop, I am so glad I have made the switch from PC to MAC, So on that note one last thing and I know you will laugh at me for this one, But I can not for the life of me figure what this dang cord is for, can someone tell me because it does not obviously connect to the laptop and it doesn't seem to go with the regular power cord that goes to the laptop.

Hi, welcome to the Mac world. It may sound corny, but it's true....IT JUST WORKS! How do you like the Force Touch trackpad? Try this, Go to Safari and open up a site. Force press on any word and the definition and thesaurus info pops up. Force Press on any name and a bio pops up with links to videos etc. Force press on any link and a preview pops up without having to leave the page that you are on. Force press on any file on your laptop and you get a preview of whats in that file.
Enjoy your new computer, the hardware is superior as is the OS, in my opinion. And the support you get is unparalleled

I will have to try that tonight when I get home, I haven't used the force touch to much yet but I will give this a try tonight.
I am absolutely loving it, I cant believe I let the price keep me from buying one for so many years. Will never go back to PC again
Yup, felt like an idiot that I didn't catch that at first, but a few people on here pointed it out quickly lol
Don't think anyone mentioned this yet, but please do these two things:
1, Enable Find My Mac. That way, if someone steals it or you lose it, you will be able to track down or lock the Mac from a computer or iOS device.
2, if you have any sensitive data on your computer, turn on FireVault. It will prevent people from booting to your hard drive at all if they don't have the password, and the data will be encrypted, so no one will be able to access it without said password.
The "extension" is also grounded (third prong).
OP:
One bit of advice re the MBPro retina display:
When you close the MacBook, to store it or carry it around, be careful about putting to much pressure between the screen and the keyboard.
The anti-glare coating (at least on earlier versions) was susceptible to damage which sometimes looked due to "too much contact" between the face of the display and the lower portion of the Macbook (keyboard, trackpad, etc.).
Don't freak out over this, just something to be aware of and "take care against".
Otherwise, enjoy the new Mac.
Don't get frustrated, sometimes it will take a little time and experimentation to learn "the Mac way" of doing things vis-a-vis Windows...
