Just bought the new 17" released... Holy Crap!

my nearest apple store is to far away to check out the matte so i just ordered it because my last glossy laptop did my head in. any one any pictures of the matte :cool:
 
Serial-ATA connection is 3Gigabit for both before and after WWDC. Screen models also seems to be the same before and after WWDC for both matte and glossy.

I'm waiting for a glossy 17" to arrive on Monday or Tuesday, it'll be interesting to see what the new display is like. I'm used to glossy from the alu iMac (and the iPhone, in a way) and it doesn't bother me at all... but this morning I had a closer look at a glossy 17" MBP in a store and maaaan, it's like they somehow managed to make it 50% more glossy than the iMac. Like they weren't content with normal glass (I've never seen a window with that amount of glare), they had to mix something extra reflective in it.

Oh well... IIRC, they do have a 14-day return policy on products with standard configuration, without restocking fee... right?

Nope, they charge a 10 or 15% restocking fee if returned in the 14 day window unless there is something wrong with the machine. You can call and try your luck though, people have had their fee waived before.

I guess I should add that there are different rules for different countries... In Sweden they are required by law to offer a 14-day return policy. Apple can take it back for a full refund or go to jail. ;)

I have the matte on my 2.66 UMBP....but I just ordered a glossy 3.06. I have a photodon AG film if needed. I guess I just wanted a change of pace but hope I don't end up regretting it.

Same theory here as my girlfriend has the glossy MB but I'm coming from a 20" matte iMac and thought both were nice. Both camps are good it just matters what will make one happy…17" MBP makes one very happy :p Now roll out the 21" Cintiq from Wacom next to it oh yeah!
 
congratulations, I was still undicided between the base 15" and the refurb 15". I'm going with the refurb.
 
I just downgraded form the older gen mbp 17 to the new 15. Indeed, I am very much in love with it! 17" laptop was too big for me though I am really glad I went down to a 15
 
Is the 7200 RPM drive noticeably faster than the stock? I've heard that it makes a difference on the lower capacity HDs but the large 500GB ones have similar performance.

It's the only thing I would BTO and that adds at least 7 days to the delivery and also makes it tougher to exchange.

Thoughts?

I've tried both and definitely noticed a difference. I'd get the 7200 drive

Did you try both the drives specifically in the MBP 17"? I'm checking up online and apparently the 7200 drive is a Seagate and the 5400 RPM one is a Hitachi. This particular Seagate drive doesn't seem to be faster than the Hitachi.

and 3 usbs and more display res and best battery...:rolleyes:

best computer IMO .....well done...
for me maybe is too big and i do hope on a matte/15...

but if they do not make ot then I ll stick with the 17/antiglare
