just broke iphone

i just broke my iphone, it fell to the ground and the screen shattered/ wont turn on. i had my entire life in it, any idea how to get a new one beside paying $600+ at the apple store?

If you plug it into your computer does it show up in iTunes? If so you know the electronics are probably still fine and just need to replace the LCD and/or glass.
