y is that? shouldnt u decide if u want the data plan or not? im still going to be paying 40 dollars a month for the voice plan.

You can always try and purchase a 2G iPhone now. Any store that has them will continue to sell them.

I have an iPod touch. I only wanted this iPhone because it would have been really neat to have fast internet wherever I am. I'm very disappointed that it's not offered here!

Is AT&T going to upgrade their 3G services to the entire country in the near future? (by the way oclor 3G is in 13000 cities, but you were right about it not being in iowa)

I was exaggerating a bit haha. But still, that's almost half of the total number of cities in America but excluding a whole state?

Actually I'm not going to blame anyone. The technology is just not there yet I guess. The only people to blame are all those that were going crazy at apple for not having 3G. What good is the 3G for the rest of us now?

So if the family plan that I'm going to be added on to already has unlimited texts, will the iPhone only cost $40 a month? ($10 to add the line and $30 for the data plan)

My family plan already has the $30/mo unlimited messing for all lines! We only have 4, so it hasn't reached the 5 yet. So the only money I'll be paying is the $30/mo data plan :D I'm already paying $15/mo for Media Net Unlimited for my BlackJack, so an extra $15 isn't gonna kill me. Yay!

wait... i thought in the first gen iphone family plans that data was $20 and each additional iphone line was another $10 data. so... 2 iphones = $30 data.

NOW ARE YOU TELLING ME each iPhone 3G will be $30 each data in a family plan? so for 2 iphones = $60? Wow... we need the 1400 minute plan and $89.99+$60.00+$10.00(text) = CRAZY.

PS: Do corporate discounts apply to this... my company gets me 17% off AT&T plans?

You are incorrect in your interpretation of the first iPhone's deal. It was $20 per line.

And yes, your 17% off WILL apply.

I read no discounts apply...

They didn't on the old iPhone because of the discounted data plan and revenue sharing model with Apple.

Now that the data plan is basically normal price and AT&T keeps it all, corporate and student discounts can be applied.

If that's the case then things aren't too bad for me. My company gets a 15% discount, and figuring that in I'll only be paying $5.75 more a month than I would have if I skip out on text messaging.

oh thats not bad were paying $130 right now for all of that and thats not including the data plan.

Yup.
Just to break it down:
700 minutes is $69.99
An extra line is $9.99
Unlimited texting is $29.99
iPhone Plan is $29.99

I think most of the complaining about plan pricing is from people who don't really understand what they're getting. This isn't a Motorola Razr.

I already have a corporate plan with rogers here in canada that comes to around 50 bucks for 250 anytime, unlimited nights weekends at 6 pm 200 text and voicemail and call display.
What do you think I will be looking at for a plan up here.

Can't really say, as they're not announced yet as far as I know. I've heard Rogers charges a ridiculous amount for data though. If you can get away with an extra $30 a month, you should be thanking the stars.

I'm starting to think that $15/mo extra might not be worth it, even for the increased speeds. I'm in the same boat where it will be $140 for my wife and I. That's not an insignificant amount of money.

Now if they let us use corporate discounts again rather than the exclusion lameness...

Time to send some more emails to Apple and AT&T!

is the GPS feature part of the data plan or is it part of the voice plan?bc im thinking about just getting he voice plan alone.

Are you allowed to just get the voice plan alone????!!! I just wrote in another post how ideal that would be for me. Use it like a Touch but have a basic phone on it. I doubt they will let you do this.

Can you get a corporate discount when using the iPhone? I didn't think you could.

Gawd, reading this thread is making me dizzy. I'm more confused now then when I joined AT&T over (4) years ago. I would suggest going to att.com and try calling AT&T. Their voice plans are easily explained and the AT&T reps will follow a script to walk you through the maze. My current Family Plan includes 1400 minutes, M2M unlimited, data plans for (3) iPhones and (1) Blackberry, unlimited text messages, unlimited night time starting at 7pm-7am M-F, unlimited weekends, and my total bill is about $249 per month or $62.25 per line. Hopefully, I haven't left anything out. We're planning on purchasing (3) 3G iPhones and the bump in the data plans isn't that bad for us, so I'll be at my local Apple Store or AT&T Corporate Store on July 11th, 2008, enjoying the new 3G iPhone! :p
