Why Windows?

MS Money. I have looked but as yet have not found a good substitute and
MS Access (Office database pgm). I'd be interested to know if Bento will accept Access files.

i never had issues with citrix with osx back in my school days for what its worth

...its a work firewall thing... its not impossible, its just easier and with an OEM copy of winXP and fusion only costing me a total of $65 shipped I didn't mind the price for the legit software...

Sometimes I carry my eeePC, sometimes I carry the whitebook - just depends on what else I have to carry that day...

Voddler isn't out for OS X yet.

My compilers for my game server programming can't be run in OS X.

Some games run better in OS X.

Basically I use windows when I am at my desk with the power plugged in and wanting to program or do some gaming ;), all the other time I use OS X because windows sucks :)

I actually don't run windows at all on any of my Macs. All of the programs that I use regularly are available for the Mac and I've actually never used windows as my main OS before. So if I haven't needed it for my entire life, why would I need it now? :)

We still use Windows just because. Never had any problems with it and it's fun to use a Mac and HP running Vista. Will probably upgrade it 7 eventually but no hurries. My MBP has XP running on Bootcamp.

excel. Office on a mac is a pain in the ass. Plus I don't think you can do regressions on office 2008

What do you mean by "regressions"? I'm unsure if Pivot tables is supported in MacOffice either.

Why Windows? For me:
ActiveDirectory
SQL Server learning & certification
Exchange 2007/2010 learning & certification
WinXP/Win7 learning & desktop support technician certifications
Citrix XenApp v11, Citrix Server, Lotus Notes (but v8.0.1/8.5.1 both work just about exactly the same in OS X Panther & onward.

Just about holding a job, refining skills to get a new job; and earn enough money so that money can work for me & itself so that my kids can do what they wish: daughter is an aspiring artist & hermit, son wants to be a comedian (don't ask, its all Jim Carrey's fault)!

I need windows for One Note and to view lectures for school. Unfortunately, the MBP sits at home and is just my play computer for this reason.

I need windows for internet banking that requires me to install ACTIVEX controller on IE7.

Yes, really lame.

Also to edit some php stuff with NOTEPAD++ since I don't know of any language programs for the mac

I don't use windows, but linux. My current flavor I'm trying out is fedora (though I still like ubuntu). OSx runs 80 - 90% of my software and the other 20-10% can be run in Linux. Heck, if adobe produced a linux version of of Lightroom, that ratio would flip flop

This...

The software required Windows 2000 or XP Professional (not home). Its not bad, I just download the database file and run it under fusion. It beats standing in from of a sequencer fiddling with the controller its connected to.

Still have to run quicken in windows (parallels). Freaking piece of crap intuit....

i use windows for steam games like counter-strike and tf2, a more robust excel with vba support, and just overall compatibility with 99% of programs.

i'm also surprised nobody mentioned that windows is also necessary for business users. the security and compatibility of windows in an enterprise environment is just leaps and bounds ahead of anything else

I have Win7 RC installed through Boot Camp. I think I've used it once in the past three months or so.

The intent was to try a couple of games through Windows, but I haven't had the time to play.

Thanks guys for all the great answers!!!! I've decided that I will keep my boot camp partition.

jlfrank21: I just saw this link. Apparently you can use Parallels with Boot Camp. One of the reasons I did it on Boot Camp was so i had the option to boot natively and ALSO run it in a VM :). I will probably never boot directly into it. But at least I know the option is there. http://www.askdavetaylor.com/use_winxp_boot_camp_partition_in_parallels.html

Also, why can't you guys run Quicken in Mac? They have a Mac version I believe.

I don't have windows yet, but am thinking about it.

One think that annoys me is when I do a good looking presentation on my mac that looks crap when I show it at windows based work - it would be useful to get out the bugs at home.

Also all those crappy little programs that you get that won't run on a mac - education CD-ROMs mostly. Is there a program that I can use to run those on a mac? .exe files usually.

Office???

To have a customizable OS that will run on my quad-core $600 PC.

EDIT: Office 2007, definitely.

Have you tried OOO? We switched everyone over a while ago and have never looked back. It supports all platforms (OSX, Linux, & Windows) and the cost is $0. Office is no longer a reason to run Windows (or to throw away a HUGE wad of cash) for nothing.
