Isn't this for calendar alerts? App Store has been using the popular near me to make app suggestions for awhile now so I presume this just an extension of that.

----------

This will be interesting to see how the logic is applied. I suspect that iBeacons might play a role.

That's what I want to know as well. The logic behind it. It can't just continuously spam you all day because you happen to pass by locations that have their own apps. That just doesn't seem right.

I haven't heard that it fires any sort of notification though, only that a suggested app will display on the lock screen if you happen to look at it. Seems like most will go unnoticed to me.

That's a good question. I would think if its "location based" it would include the lock screen.

Only thing I can say is turn of off and go to same location and see if that works.

I stand corrected, But I still don't see the big deal. It's a tiny little icon at the bottom of you screen, do you stare at your lock screen enough for that to bother you?

I strongly disagree. If Apple tries to pull a Google and try to turn me into a product for advertisers, I have zero reason not to go back to Android. Between this new BS, lack of notification light, lack of global sound EQ control, waiting around more months for a 5 year old swype keyboard, huge PITA to move files around often needing a computer, on and on and on,

wow, I'm really starting to think no iPhone 6 is in my future.

The new Moto G universal LTE with microSD card for $220 is starting to look mighty nice. Because it has all those things. It's starting to look like that $220 phone blows away iOS in all respects. Why the hell should I pay $1000 for a crippled phone again? Remind me?

REMINDER FOR IOLINUX333

Please buy Moto G universal LTE with microSD Card - it blows iOS in all respects.

END OF REMINDER..

Geez, the whining.

This is the first BETA release guys (and gals), and what a shock, it has bugs. Get a clue. If you are running 8.0 b1 you should, as developers, know what a Beta release means and the problems they cause. If you don't like it, or are complaining about features that are not even supposed to be there, downgrade back to 7.1.1 and be done with it. Otherwise, there's the door on the left with a picture of a cute little green robot on it... Take it, and don't let it hit you on the a__ on the way out.

I live a block from a supermarket and now its app is prominently displayed on my lock screen while I am home. How to turn that disgusting feature off?

Turk off location service for that app

----------

Im still waiting for this to work on my phone. I was in Starbucks with app installed. Nothing!!!!

This feature might be country specific like Siri location feature.. If Siri can find places in your area , it'll probably work.. Kind of like "which movie is playing" or " where will I get a good Chinese restaurant" type questions.. If Siri can answer these kind then it should probably work

That's what I thought, too, but I have the app installed. I really need that app as I use it to load coupons and discounts onto my club card - it saves me at least $30/mo. The idea that I have to uninstall an app. or worse, see an ad for an app I don't EVER want, spamming my phone on any screen, never the less my lock screen, is freaking horrible. I turned off all manner of location service features short of turning off the master LS switch and it still shows up.

I then turned of ALL location services and it is finally gone. They need to give us control over this feature and anyone that says, "Don't like it? Don't use Apple products" or "Uninstall the app" as if that is an acceptable only choice has a slave mentality.

What are we retards? "Hey iPhone user!~ In case you are an idiot, we put the app for that gas station across the street right on your lock screen in case there is a 1 in a million chance you will want to stop everything you are doing and download that app! You can thank us later!"

First thing, it'll work ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE APP INSTALLED .. Not if u don't...
You don't need to turn off all the location services.. Just that one app..

And y do you need to uninstall apps.. Don't have a go on stuff untill it's confirmed...

That's what I said but people swore up and down that it recommends apps you DON'T have installed.

Doesn't sound like you were even considering an iPhone 6 anyways. If iOS is "crippled" for you, especially after the improvements included in iOS 8, go with the Moto. The iPhone obviously isn't for you.

Turn off the location service for that store's app, does that solve it?
