bottom line Verizon allows Sim swapping between 4G devices so this is not even against the Verizon TOS so how is it even illegal ?

ok....not illegal but still wrong.

Why would the OP come here and ask his question if he could just open a chat box on the VZW website and ask the same thing or call 611? It's because if he explained what he wanted to do to a Verizon employee they would say, "NO, you can't do that. It's against VZW policy."

And I'm saying that if VZW would say that, then he SHOULDN'T do it. If someone wants to head over to Howardforums and go into the Verizon employee forum and ask that question and they say, "oh yeah, it's fine to do" then i will admit I was wrong to call out the OP. Otherwise, I'm right I just shouldn't have used the word illegal from the beginning.

Just because I've done something illegal before does not mean I shouldn't call someone out for doing something ILLEGAL now. That makes no sense. If it's illegal, it's illegal. 2 wrongs, don't make a right. If no one could call out anyone else if they had ever done something illegal or ever sinned, then NO ONE COULD EVER TELL ANOTHER PERSON THEY WERE DOING SOMETHING WRONG!!!

This is where the world is headed now but do you see what the final outcome would look like? Total chaos and destruction as no one would follow any rules.

You are a fool if you think other people having done illegal stuff makes it OK for you to do illegal stuff. I'd like to see that stand up in a courtroom or with the police or any company that sues you for stealing from them......good luck.

it's illegal because it is Verizon's network and Verizon has said that if you want to use an iphone on THEIR data network you HAVE TO have a voice/minute plan.

If you dont' believe me, CALL THEM. It is illegal because it's THEIR network, not yours, not the random publics, it's Verizon's.

TOTAL CHAOS AND DESTRUCTION all for using only data on an iPhone?!? Wow man, you just emphasized my point for me. If it's against VZW's TOS, then yeah it's wrong....but who cares?? He's not stealing, not getting something for nothing...he wants to use the device HE PURCHASED IN A MANNER WHICH HE WANTS TO USE IT.

Put your energy towards something useful.

Thanks for those of you have posted some experiences.

The lack of tethering sounds like it might kill the plan for me, if in fact that feature is locked out, because a big part of the value is in having LTE tethering without carrying my iPad around. (I guess I could jailbreak and get it, but I've never seriously tried that before.)

The person who suggested the iPad mini is dead-on, but who knows how long that might be? It would be closer to perfect for me. I do occasionally need to place a voice call, which I suspect the phone form factor would be better for... but a data-only iPhone 5 or a data-only mini-iPad would be pretty close at the end of the day, I think, given how I use them. (No browsing on the devices; I do that on my laptop. I read on them, but I don't mind reading on the smaller screen. I do prefer reading on the bigger screen. I don't watch much video or really carry around much audio, but I do use my phone to play podcasts in the car.)

I'll update this thread if I get one and try it out.

exactly, you said it. It's wrong, so he shouldn't do it. When did it become OK to do things that are wrong? it's not ok, even though we all do wrong sometimes. Our goal should be to NOT do wrong.

It is a foolish thing to say, "yeah it's wrong....but who cares." That is a horrible viewpoint to take on what is wrong and obviously you would hope that the people that work with your family members or take care of your kids or interact with your kids at school don't take the same foolish viewpoint.

Therein lies the problem; I don't really view it as wrong. What I think is wrong, is that carriers restrict what you can use your data for.

Another, new, example: Letting those on shared data plans us FaceTime over cellular, but still restricting it for unlimited and tiered users. I use Tango over cellular to place video calls...is that wrong of me? Since I'm circumventing ATT's rules?

You pay for your data, you should be able to use it as you see fit. The only reason you can't is because of greedy CEO's.

There are some universal wrongs that will always be viewed as such: Murder, rape, drunk driving, robbery, kidnapping. Violating (and we're not even clear if this is a violation) a wireless carriers TOS agreement doesn't really bother me much. They violate us enough, and we have no real power for recourse, having to rely on the FCC to take action.

One should be able to get just a data plan, or just a minutes and text plan on any device they choose to purchase. I mean at one point they forced unlimited data plans upon us, now they limit those and scream at us to use wifi when possible. So why can't I just buy minutes and texts and get my data exclusively from wifi? Greed is why.

The problem lies with you. If YOU agreed to the terms of service and yet your break them. That is your fault, no one else's.

I don't disagree with your line of thinking on what SHOULD be the case but since it IS NOT, it IS WRONG for you to do what's being described.

It IS WRONG even if you don't THINK it is. That would be like me saying if I steal a candy bar from the gas station that's not wrong because they are hosing me on gas prices. I THINK it's not wrong, but it IS wrong....
