Hello everyone, I'm totally new....

I just pulled the trigger and ordered a 13 inch macbook pro from the Apple.com website. UPS informs me I should get it tomorrow.

I also went ahead and bought an Intel 520 SSD 120 gb to slap into it. I bought the base model as I'm going to buy 12 Gb of RAM from macsales.com.

So as you can imagine I got the hardware covered now I need you guys to recommend me the coolest accessories for it?

I'm a uni student so I would be needing a nice sleeve type bag as I already have a ruck sack. What else you people recommend for me? I love you all, very glad to be part of the team. Yay!! :)

I'd recommend a decent case. I have a Speck Seethru and it's pretty solid. Barely affects the looks of the machine either if you get the transparent one, though the apple green one looks pretty good.

Can someone recommend one of those rubber silicone mats to put on the keys to stop your hands from sliding and to silence the noise they make when the keys are pressed. I've seen the el cheapo ones on eBay and have one on my desktop full keyboard but the fit is terrible, its gone all "wavy" on me.

12GB RAM?? How and why? 8 or 16, seriously...

120GB SSD? Are you replacing the optical drive?

I doubt MBP 13 support 12 or 16 GB. i think the max you can put is 8 GB on 13" models.
I am not 100% sure, but can anybody confirm this ? please ?

It will 100% take 16GB of RAM (2x8GB). Ships with 4GB (2x2GB), could do 12GB (1x4GB, 1x8GB), but why? 16GB kits are like $100.

16GB. I did it the day after I got mine. Shows up in the about my mac screen and tech specs. With that and an SSD, this thing is more than I will need for a few years.

Ohh, thats nice..Does 2009 MBook ( Not Pro ) core2Duo support 8 ? 12 ? 0r 16 ? i m stuck at 4gb.

If i can add more GBs then i dont need new rMBP..can save some $$$

What kind/size SSD did you get, and where did you put it? It seems there are lots of variables/problems out there. I have the base 13" 2012 model and would really like to do the SSD-OSX/HDD-Data combo.

Got the Crucial 256 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT256M4SSD2 from amazon. I ended up just replacing the internal hard drive. Thinking of doing the optical bay too, but still have plenty of room. This is just my mobile PC. I have a 2009 top-of-the-line iMac that I use for the house and streaming ripped movies. With the SSD and 16GB of memory, this "base" 13" macbook pro is definitely faster. I can never go back to a regular hard drive.

Congrats on your MBP13! I just got mine in yesterday morning. DOes anyone use/suggest to use a screen protector? Never had a mac before so dunno how it would affect the screen, plus the screen is always smushed against the keyboard keys when its closed (right?) so getting a protector would definitely help?

Thanks!

Nope, your keyboard is recessed. It doesn't touch the screen and there is a rubber rim around the screen, Apple wouldn't make that simple of a design flaw. Just clean the screen once a week with a microfiber cloth with a screen cleaner. Don't use Windex, the ammonia will yellow the screen.

Nah, don't bother. And it's not 'smushed against the keys'.

OMG

My sister got it for me on her medical discount, she was getting more than me. I'm a law student, I like to show off...etc. :D:apple:

There may be worse reasons to buy things, but this is pretty damn high on the list.
