Let them keep on teasing us -- it's fun. I got the text also. pointless like a fake jump on a horror flick -- but it works ;)

I just phoned O2 and pretended I didn't know what the text was about and that I deleted it by mistake. He told me what the text was and I couldn't get much more info out of him.

He did say that, as an existing iPhone customer I could go into a store on the 11th and get one. I asked him and got him to confirm a few times and he said I definitely could do that.

The "first come, first served" bit has got me a bit panicky now that I might not be able to get one if there are long queues :(

if this is true they better have two lines, one for us upgraders and one for the new kids on the block:cool:

Got mine too...

"iPhone 3G is almost here.

As promised we are writing to you to keep you updated on the next steps to getting iPhone 3G.

iPhone 3G goes on sale on the High Street on 11th July 2008.

We will be writing to you again before the 11th with details about how you could place your order. We do, however, expect demand for iPhone 3G to be very high so orders will be processed on a first come, first served basis so that we can be fair to all our customers. Orders will be limited to one iPhone 3G per customer.

For now, just go to www.o2.co.uk/iPhone if you wold like to look at the iPhone tariffs that will be available for launch."

Not much in the way of news is it....

Translation: "We'd really like you to all preorder so we have our hands on your cash from the earliest date possible. Thankyou."

Of course it'll be first come first served, I didn't exactly assume that they'd be tossing them out randomly. There will almost certainly be plenty for everyone and if not at worst you'll only need to wait a week or so.

so where this info coming from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1580527&tstart=0

I like gareth's "why can't they put the official info on their website" in that thread when it's been on the O2 site for weeks that existing iphone customers can only upgrade online.

the point is that people are getting conflicting info from 02, some say you can upgrade instore some say you can't.

(I like Gareth:D)

What about existing O2 non-iPhone customers?
I got the same text, I think I will have to pay the rest of my contract out. Everyone I have talked to at o2 just haven't had any more information than with a normal contract I would have to pay the rest off but with an iPhone 3g contract they just don't know at the moment.

Well I agree on that the text does not us anything new, but the bit that says

"We will be writing to you again before the 11th with details about how you could place your order....."

Could the word 'could' mean different options on how to place the order, for example ordering online or a option to say that you will pick up from the store but its not guaranteed?(I know about 02 unable to reserve the iPhones).

It's as if 02 are throwing a fishing line in with the bait being this text and seeing how much we nibble! They know what they are going to do and how they are going to release months before this, I think they are just trying to make it exciting for us whilst we are waiting!

Well I've been out of contract for the last 12 months.

4 days ago I recieved an iPhone newsletter which included prices.. and a free ticket for a friend (if you buy one yourself) for the movies every Tuesday :D (seriously yes)

Has anybody else not received this text? I signed up to the notification thing on the O2 home page as soon as it became available - but I've had nothing today :(
