I want a Kindle e-ink display just like it is now with an eye friendly optional backlight and touch screen. :D Just because I want it doesn't mean it will happen, but still.. I can want it.

Well then Kastenbrust is right in your case..........it's called an LCD. ;) Perhaps a netbook is best for you.

I'll take the e-Ink display that uses no power unless you flip a page, which would allow for a battery life I can measure in "weeks" rather than "hours". Less eyestrain, too.

The reason I don't want a backlight or touchscreen is because that would require a lot more power, and totally take away one of the best features of e-Ink......you don't need to power e-Ink to keep it visible.

No no, you're talking about the possible. I'm just referring to "I want". :D I e-ink technology with all the goodies and none of the drawbacks.

I have noticed that Amazon doesn't charge you a separate $0.10 charge for every document sent via user@kindle.com (as opposed to user@free.kindle.com and loading it via a computer). They seem to charge when you've built up $3.00 in usage before charging your credit card.

Yes, the Kindle should cost less. But then again, I am not paying for the whispernet access, but I don't see myself using it much.

Once again, for me, this is primarily an ipod for books. I want to use it to READ. If they could do a touch screen and keep the screen as eye friendly, I would love it.

If I want color, multimedia, and real surfing on the web, yes, I will use an iPhone, touch, or buy a netbook. That's not what I wanted though. If you do not read a lot, the device is probably not for you.

I hope y'all know they do sell clip on LED lights, the same kind that you clip on books ;)

should cost $129.

I blogged about this device, mostly wondering who would use it...

The Kindle reminds me of an electronic Etch-a-Sketch, or a less-functional Apple Newton.

Yes, I have read and seen video of e-ink in action.

Seems to be some mega-ninga-viral-marketing all over concerning this device. I sort of do not understand all the hype .

Actually, it should cost $89.

At that price it would be subsidized and you would probably have to pay a monthly fee for the whispernet service. I've seen a break down of what it cost to make the Kindle and it isn't too far under what the retail cost is. It has a faster processor than the iPhone and most Blackberries at 532 MHz, either 32 or 64 MB RAM, 2 GB storage, and an EVDO modem. If you compare those specs to pretty much any unsubsidized phone the price doesn't seem so bad.

Mine should get here tomorrow, and I've already picked up a handful of books in anticipation that I'm chipping away at on my iPod.

I tend to read in bursts, mostly because it's only occasionally that I can motivate myself to make trips to the library or the bookstore, but it's a pastime that I love dearly. I absolutely cannot wait to have such a large library at my fingertips, all the time - downtime at work, downtime on campus, downtime at home.

The fact that it syncs up with Kindle on iPhone so I can do a last little bit of reading in the dark before bed is just icing on the cake.

Color me excited.
