Just got my MacBook Pro 16... Where is the notch?

Hi, I just got my MacBook Pro 16. Where is the notch? The screen where the notch is blacked out. I have no notch. I want the notch I wouldn't mind the extra screen real-estate. How do I enable it?

Did you get a MacBook Pro with M1 Pro or M1 Max, or do you have an Intel Mac? If it has M1 Pro/Max, you have a notch. If it’s Intel, you don’t, and you have a 3 year old computer model.

M1 Max, but no notch... Can't find the option.

There’s no option, it’s just there. It’s just the black area in the center of the menu bar.

So on the M1 Max the screen doesn't go around the notch?

On the 14 and 16” Pros, the notch is not easily visible. It’s hidden under the glass in the menu bar.

That doesn't look like it has a notch. Are you sure it's not an Intel 16" MacBook Pro? Check the "About This Mac" box under the Apple Menu at the top left.

M1 Max, but no notch... Can't find the option.

This is what it looks like on a 14"/16" MBP, you can plainly see it if your screen wallpaper goes full resolution. I use the Monterey dark graphic still as shown in this image.

Try a solid color wallpaper, so it's clearer (not black).

Brand new... I am wondering if my logging in with iCloud account has removed it. I upgraded from a 2018 MacBook Prom 15...

I have also had this after using Citrix Receiver. Just restart or switch back and forth between resolutions.

This depends on the app. When your app is in in full screen, the notch doesnt appear but instead is surrounded by a black line on the top of the screen. Also, developers might desire or not to add the pixels near the notch or not

The notch exists on all 2021 M1 Pro/M1Max 14"/16" MBP laptops.

Thank-you. Problem fixed. It was my Citrix Receiver that removed my notch. A reboot fixed everything. Hopefully Citrix fixes this bug ASAP...

Pretty sure that it's for M1. Is there a way to check?
