In the activity monitor, there is a column that shows whether it is apple or intel.
I'm using Citrix Workspace 2211

Open Activity Monitor with the app running and look under "Kind". It will be Universal or Apple if it is. Intel otherwise. Alternatively you can open System Information and check under the Software heading or Get Info on the binary
It's Apple (M1). So I guess that it is a bug that still exists. I can live with it...

Right.

It's also worth noting that if an app doesn't play nicely with the notch, it's possible to toggle this button in its Get Info panel. It will make it such that every time that app is opened the notch area disappears, like you had it before

And then comes back when all apps using this toggle are closed

Oh, one more issue of Citrix Workspace? I wonder how that crapware was ever released and passed its acceptance testing.

To be fair, I have been using Citrix for 3 years and this is the first time that I have had a problem with it.

I actually have a light gray/off white background and enable “hide toolbar” so the module stands out more. I don’t see the point of trying to pretend it isn’t there.

There seem to be plenty of options for different applications, some allows you to scale the entire screen so it fits under the notch:

Dude this is wierd
switch a different display resolution in settings might work

So on the M1 Max the screen doesn't go around the notch?
It sounds like you’re maybe expecting dynamic island? That is only on iPhone 14 Pro and ProMax. The MacBook pros have an “attached” notch like iPhone X-13.

Thank-you. Problem fixed. It was my Citrix Receiver that removed my notch. A reboot fixed everything. Hopefully Citrix fixes this bug ASAP...
Sorry for tagging you on this one, but clearing up matters for the new posters

To everyone below. The thread has already been resolved. The OP was not expecting dynamic island or physically missing a notch. The OP was not asking for a bigger notch or anything like that. The OP was having an issue with a Citrix receiver that resulted in the screen only lighting up the pixel area below the notch in a similar way as when "Scale to fit below built-in camera" is enabled for a running program.
No no, I'm sure the OP had a genuine grievance here.

On the other hand, if anyone starts looking for a "dynamic island" on their MacBook, nothing but a drill will do...

Yeah, I commented after only reading the first few posts.

Another potential fix is to check that the "Scale to fit below built-in camera" option is disabled for the application (right click -> get info).
