is the reason you can't intsall 10.7 because of the new connector, or because iOS 6 requires 10.7? (if it's the latter issue, you're stuck unable to update :p)

The reason is because OS X releases starting at 10.6 Snow Leopard no longer support PowerPC.

This is also the first Mac OS release since System 7.1.1 that does not support Macs that use PowerPC processors, as Apple now intends to focus on its current line of Intel-based products.

Thank you for those who aren't being pricks. I was simply wanting to learn something that I maybe didn't know about my new pad. But after most of the reply's I have gotten I think I'm going to stick to my PowerPC forum. I do appreciate those that did not put me down.

The only one being a prick is you. Suggesting a return, or possible return is good advice. You don't have to follow the advice, but never the less it is solid.

My advice, if there is a solid refresh. Return yours, and buy a slightly used one. Depending on what they change, the "old" new iPads could very well take a price hit on the used market. Shoot, even a new "old" new iPads (lol) may get a price reduction. If its the later then all you should need to do is get a price adjustment.

Congratulations on your new device. Enjoy it!

These forums can be brutal and I don't have an explanation for it…

I do, because the smart thing to do is to get the newest one you can while still within your return window. Be smart with your money by making sure you have the most up to date tech toys and your investment will last longer. Simple really.

Agreed on all points.

Why call people pricks, for informing you that the iPad 3 is likely to get a revision soon? I would be very thankful for the advice, especially if your iPad 3 is still within the 14 day return window.

I cannot install 10.7 because I run a PowerPC based Mac. Therefore the highest operating system I can run is leopard (10.5.8). The newest version of iTunes will not run on PowerPC. I am also not worried about a stupid new connector (lightning) versus the legacy (30 pin) connector.

Because I already knew that it might possibly be getting a revision so I got one with the legacy connector while I still could so I can sync it to my G5.

You may not be worried about the connector, but the potential of the A6 included in the new rev may give you something you wish you had. Also, would the new ipad with the INCLUDED lightning cable not sync with your G5? Still no reason for name calling.

Great weather app for iPad (and indeed for iPhone too) is Weather Pro :)

Most beneficial app is GoodReader, which will handle all your file management needs plus extremely good PDF viewing and annotating. And for the rest, I'll just say you should do your own searching since thats part of the fun.

Hi, I'm usually active in the PowerPC forum as I love my powermac g5. Anywho as the title says I just picked up a 16 gig 3rd generation ipad. I absolutely love it but am fairly new to iOS 6....I was wondering any of you have advice or can explain some of the cool features that it can do.:D:apple::D

As you might already know, iOS is all about the apps you download. It all comes down to what you like but the first app that you should download is Flipboard.

Do it. Now.

As for games… Hero Academy can entertain you for a while, it's free. If you want fast and challenging stuff buy Super Hexagon.

I told you to return it. I was right. You got a speed bump and a bit slimmer, better power efficiency display. Some ppl are jealous at you coz you have 14 days window here. They say enjoy it coz they can't return it too.

Like me for instance... very jealous. Didnt think that they would update the iPad until 1st quarter 2013... Putting my old "new iPad" on eBay first thing after work.

1.) Read everything else in this iPad forum.
2.) Get in your mode of transportation.
3.) Return your iPad.
4.) Wait until Tuesday.

Better idea:

1) Order the new iPad
2) Wait 30 days, or for the arrival of your new iPad, whichever comes sooner.
3) Return current iPad after waiting.

This way, the guy doesn't have to be without an iPad as long as he would if he returned it now.

Why, is something wrong with it? My 3rd Gen iPad still seems to work just fine. Did Apple disable all the features to force people to buy a new one?

Ill go with a mini instead. That has greater potential to leave my house then the iPad 3 or 4, which I am always afraid to take anywhere considering that I don't use a school bag, or laptop bag.

Plus I'd rather not carry multiple chargers or cords for that matter. This iPhone 5 is getting all the charging love.

Read somewhere that if you bought a 3rd gen ipad within the last 30 days, some stores will allow an exchange for the 4th gen. Not all Apple stores will allow this so better check with your store first

Hope you're enjoying your out-dated iPad. :)

Still, not really much difference. Better processor and a lighting connector.
