I don't think you're being fair at all about this. It's a common concern and it IS happening rather you want to admit it or not. When Apple comes out with a hot product there are tons of asians in line buying the product and nine times out of ten their bags have multiples of the same product. I mean, nobody here has to speculate this. There are pictures that have been shown here and all over the internet. Then Ebay manages to get flooded full of this product with an inflated price.

yep its fact so lets hate all those arabic speaking and chinese..beat them

----------

that was a sarcasm

----------

nah..if its make you feel better to attack the race of the scalpers do it, for myself im not going to do that.

Explain which part falls under xenophobia........the scalping part? Or describing someone's ethnicity? I'm curious.

The fact that the OP is assuming that people of middle eastern origin are scalpers is what makes it racist / xenophobic.

It's the same when people assume that all asian or other ethnic groups in line on launch day are scalpers, many of them are not.

Unless one of these folks has actually offered the OP an iphone at a higher price then they have no proof of scalping, merely proof of someone buying lots of phones.

These scalper punks do make it bad for everyone. F them all and F Apple for letting this cr@p go on. I couldn't preorder because I had to have ATT fix some stuff on my account so I can get the upgrade pricing.

I called ATT at 7am on the day it went on sale and the rep said I was his first call, after he ordered me the 6+ 128gb SG, I got a delivery estimate of 11/09 to 11/27. So basically I got to wait till Thanksgiving to get my phone because of these punk scalpers.

All I know is if the Nexus 6 turns out to be a nice phone, I might cancel my order and get that and let Apple go screw themselves.

is it really THAT bad in america?
i can walk in to any store today and get one if i sign a new contract. maybe not the 128gb version but i suspect it would not have been november.
live in canada.
was in australia last week and observed the same.

while we are on the topic of scalping. lets talk about scalping in financial markets.

Do you hate those HFT punks too?

Attacking? Lol, I'm not attacking anyone. I'm stating facts.

Even though I did get the phone I wanted when I went to the Apple store, I do understand how you feel! I Was so angry with a group of people in front of me in the line who were doing the same thing! They just pissed me off! always trying to cut in line and leaving trash behind them! going back and forth in the line talking to others who were in line doing the same thing. Apple really needs to do something, this is just stupid.

----------

Same thing was happening in Atlanta yesterday. There were 3 West African gentlemen with Apple bags full of phones and Apple TVs. They would rotate in line and were paying in cash. I was very fortunate to get my 6+ but I mentioned it to the Apple employee queuing us up and he said there was nothing they could do about it and they have been well versed in the legalities. Its not fair but as was said earlier its capitalism in its purest form.

Was it at the Lenox mall? .

That wouldn't be racist, that would be a stereotype. But the OP just mentioned their ethnicity. He didn't say that middle eastern=scalpers. I read it as bag full of iphones=scalpers.

People use the word racist all the time, yet I don't think they actually know the definition.

+1 to just ordering on Apple.com or Apple Store app and doing customer pick up.

I got my 6 plus day after launch doing that. I could have came in any time and my phone would have been waiting there. It literally had my name on it when I picked up.

I was in the Apple store today getting another new iPhone leather case, and while the sales associate was ringing me up, another employee (I think an assistant manager) came up to her and told her that there was a problem out front with the line.....seems that a guy in the line was buying 2 phones each and then going right out and selling them, then getting in line again....and again....and again. The assistant manager then went on out to the line and we saw him talking to some guy, and shortly thereafter the guy was nowhere to be seen. GOOD!!!! So at least one Apple store is not permitting this sort of thing to go on once they are made aware of it.

LOL so many butt hurt people here. What proof do any of you have that those "Arabs" we're scalpers? Maybe he was hooking up his ISIS crew. Take those videos on the fly with 6 Plus image stabilization

Many of these fools don't know what you're saying because their brain has been fried by the radiation.

And don't tell them about trade market or the currency exchange.... Shhhhhh

Why because he mentioned they are middle eastern? Get over yourself, merely stating facts isn't xenophobic, I'm so tired of these boogeyman words being slung around everywhere.

You were saying?? My response was not necessarily directed at op but you know why he included the race.

Assuming that someone of a different ethnicity buying lots of iphones is a scalper is what makes it racist.

These folks could simply have been buying gifts for family members.

It's definitely possible that people are buying for family members or friends, but do you do it by buying bags of 128GB iPhone 6 plus?

I have been waiting for a 6+ 128GB Space Grey Verizon to come in stock locally, finally an Apple Store about 30 mins away shows them in stock. I leave work in the middle of the day and take a personal hour. I get there in about 25 mins no traffic. The Apple Store app is still showing them available. I see a small line formed out front with about 4 Middle Eastern guys and 2 Mom's with kids. The Middle Eastern guys each had 2 shopping bags each full of phones. Apparently the Apple Store was selling them each 2 at a time of whatever they wanted, and letting them keep going back in line and buying more and more. Of course the guys in front of me that could barely speak English says "2 more Verizon 128 Plus Black" which happened to have been the last 2 they had. I said, wait a minute, how many per person, the apple store rep said there is a 2 per person limit. I said then how do they have shopping bags full of phones? She said "we let them get back in line when they are done." I was pissed, but not about to start a fight in the middle of the mall. The thing that really pissed me off
is the guy was smirking at me and said something in Arabic under his breath that made the 3 of his friends laugh. This really
sucks for normal users that want to buy the phone full price so they don't have to sign a new contract...

Thanks for listening,

Y2J

I am way too familiar with this, as I am in the sneaker biz, and every weekend I deal with this sort of thing. I guess at times, I can be a little like said Middle Eastern guys. I do camp out out and re-sell. Some people get infuriated with me for doing so...and I guess I understand their point. Although it is capitalism in it's purest form. No so bad, really.

Just Got Screwed By Scalpers...

A lot of people are quick to shout racism in this forum. I think some of the comments may imply xenophobia, but I haven't seen any indication that people here believe that the scalpers are inferior on account of ethnicity. There is a difference between racism and xenophobia.

The only party that can fix this scalping problem is Apple. If they impose a 2 phone limit per ID within the first 30 days of launch, we wouldn't see people bagging 10-20 phones for resale in China.

People who are upset should write to Tim Cook. Complaining here probably will not get Apple's attention, but a ton of letters and emails might work.

It's definitely possible that people are buying for family members or friends, but do you do it by buying bags of 128GB iPhone 6 plus?

If I could afford to, then yes, I would buy every member of my family a top of the range iphone.

My old boss actually did this with the 5S and took five of us for a nice day out on release day to ensure that he could get 12 phones. He was from the middle east and probably would be labelled a scalper by most in this forum.

Yes you're right it would be racial stereotyping, as is common in these threads when talking about scalpers...and it is very much a form of racism / xenophobia.

There's an old joke that goes "what do you call a black man on a bicycle? -a thief"

This is exactly what is happening here and elsewhere in the forum, people see folks that aren't white middle class hipsters in the line and assume that they must be buying in order to sell, because their prejudices don't allow them to believe that they could be buying for themselves.

It's not unless you're paying taxes and applicable customs fees (level playing field) on all that. You might if you've got a company but I am 99% sure most foreign scalpers are not, and not paying due taxes is a crime.

How would it be a crime in the US if the scampers don't pay taxes in China, Saudi Arabia or wherever? Isn't customs taxation the jurisdiction of those nations??

I agree! I think it's time some formal petitions and other attention grabbing actions are started and maybe they'll get it right next time.

Though they may worry that without scalpers they won't hit their goals. Let's face it out of the 10 million sold maybe 4 or 5 were for scalping, and Apple would hate to say they sold only 7-8 million on launch next time.

I have no doubt overall numbers would stay the same since demand is high just saying those weekend launch numbers might be lower since most general people wait a few weeks or months to buy.

It's a crime somewhere, even if not in the USA.

I think it is more of a quantity thing, than a race thing. But whatever. I don't care who is lining up and buying all the phones, and neither does Apple.

The thing is, these posts almost always mention ethnicity. If it was purely about the quantity then there would be no reason to mention that.

I can guarantee you that if it had been a couple of white guys in suits with bags full of Apple stuff then people wouldn't even look close enough to see if their bags were full of phones, let alone make assumptions that they were scalping.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely detest scalpers regardless of ethnicity, but I detest discrimination/xenophobia/racism far more.

I have been to several apple stores here at Washington, they all told me that there is a line out there every morning before they open. They all told me the same thing: two phones per transaction! So that means that people can go in and out the store and keep buying phones if they want to.
I have no problem with who is buying the phone tho, because if you brought it, then it is yours, I don't give a damn about you resell it or smash it. It is your right to do whatever you want with the phone.
The real problem with these people are they cut lines, I have seen it many times on launch day and the day after that, if they come out and go back to the line like they suppose to, I don't have a problem with them.

the smell of xenophobia is strong lately in macrumors...the act of scalping is disgusting ,as disgusting as racisme and xenophobia

I think there are many folks here who need to learn the definition of racism. Stating a fact isn't racism.

Here in Menlo PK NJ store on the first few days probably 80% of those in line were Asian. They were there by the family. Mom, Dad, Grampa, Gramma, kids. Anyone who could stuff their pockets with cash and walk out with 2 phones each. All you had to do was listen to the conversations with the Apple saleskiddies. These folks were walking out with 6, 8, 10 & 12 devices virtually every one paid with cash. They obviously had no plans on signing ATT contracts. This went on with the 5 and 5s launches as well.

All perfectly legal. Just annoying to those of us standing in line for an hour for JUST ONE to use for our personal use.

It was all over the news. "Purchasing to send back to China and sell them for upwards of $2000 each" were the reports on the major networks. Does that make the reporters racist? No, just stating facts.

Please people, before tossing out the "R" Word know exactly what it means. Racism is a terrible thing, but this ain't racism.

you cant expect people from 3rd world countries to have the same mannerism.

even in 2nd world countries people display absolutely no class.

I'd be extremely mad as well, i would of probably talked crap to them. If it ends in a fight then so be it. Hopefully they learn to have some decent manners of the country they're visiting.

Its not like i go to 3rd world countries and hit on married muslim women (lol i'd probably get killed if i do so).

They're just less educated, and if they are and they still act like that, they're just scumbags.
