Just guessing - New Display this week & rebrand?

Waiting to hear this week if any new displays show.

I currently use a 27" ASD and 27" TB from 2011 - both in tandem with my Studio Mac which I love.

I'd jump on a new mini LED version in a heartbeat if the price was palatable....
 
Are they trying to price out of the market? Are not they using the recently debuted LG miniLED panel that multiple other upcoming monitors are coming out with and selling for less than 1/2 the cost?

on the plus side lol.... looks like they managed to get 120Hz to work on TB4 Macs with DSC

Nvm they updated the specs to show you need M4 for 120Hz

Yes, despite the increase in HDR brightness, the new Studio Display XDR has the exact same number of dimming zones and resolution as the new LG 5K monitor, so as Apple does not make it’s own panels they are using that same LG panel, and MSI showed a prototype glossy version of it so we know it can be done. I mean it seriously looks like they have basically taken the old Studio Display chassis and changed the internals and screen. Then slapped a 3300 price tag on it! It sill has ONE input socket! So in 2026 you pay 3300 for a monitor with one input socket. Crazy.

yep just confirmed that the tech specs below are accurate, and that it is indeed DSC 1.2a on TB4 Macs!

Precisely, I will wait till May to see what is announced at the monitor event then, need to get a new monitor this year. The new XDR is tempting BUT it is an expensive investment, however it will last a long time and should have no uniformity issues, but then I could get a Kuycon 6K 32” and a pair of KEF self powered speakers with KEF stands for probably 500 to 800 less then this new XDR display.
 
So they've done what we kind of thought they might do based on the rumours, the model numbers and what Apple usually do.

  • ASD gets the very definition of a "refresh", changing not very much.
  • The new ASD XDR comes in above it, has the mini-LED tech and a big price tag to match.
It doesn't really change much from where we are today. There's going to be cheaper alternatives to both out there and better alternatives too.

I guess its going to come down to how much you're willing to pay for the 100% Apple compatibility and built-in features, which is pretty much the same as it is today when it comes to buying an ASD.
 
So, does all this mean that refreshed base ASD still uses basically 10+ years old panel from Intel 5K iMacs days? It's just a shame.

not really. M2 Pro/Max/Ultra and M3 Pro/Max/Ultra will support 120Hz as well.

If they are, are anyone else giving 2000 nits HDR brightness?
