"Things to do first" "Set up your Home Screen"

My Home Screen has looked more or less the same since the iOS 7 days and I'm too lazy to change it now... I haven't even bothered putting up any widgets 😩

Oh man you totally should. They're good now. You don't even have to ditch your existing Home Screen, just make some new ones to experiment with.

Also Control Center. So good now. Still some tweaking to be done but I love having buttons to jump straight to specific features.

That ship sailed a couple releases ago. I forget they exist now. And the new shortcut actions are so good they aren't needed anymore anyway.

Yeah the new control center seems even more touchy than the Home Screen. I'm hoping they work on refining that.

Ha personally, QR code and Magnifier, two things I need to reach quickly for without having to fumble for it. And Camera is always right there with the swipe gesture.

Or, you can do what I did on some Lock Screens and just remove them completely. Now we just need to be able to remove the time and we'll be all set.

Ha this is actually the best most stable release in years. iOS 16 was hot garbage. 17 was better but still very buggy at release. 18 is so good, all the Release Candidates from last week are today's final General Availability across the board.

It’s not available in the EU: https://archive.is/Rl7Ue

Apple said on Friday: “Due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act, we do not believe that we will be able to roll out three of these [new] features — iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements and Apple Intelligence — to our EU users this year.”
So iOS 18 is a dud for us EU users.

Couple of things: The article headline is: "Just Install iOS 18? Here Are 10 Things to Do First." But then MacRumors tells you all the things you can only do AFTER installing iOS 18. Cognitive dissonance strong here.

Second: The one most important thing to do BEFORE installing iOS 18 (or any iOS or Mac OS): back up your device immediately before installing, so if something goes haywire (yes, it can happen, believe it or not) you have a way to return to the stable system you had running without losing any data.

I am loving the new Activity app. Finally some easily accessible stats like weekly miles run or time spent swimming. Sweet!

Also, hope motion cue’s alleviates my motion sicknesses while driving.

I'm hanging on to a discontinued Logitech Harmony companion remote, and the widget was excellent. The app, having also been pretty much abandoned, has no "iOS 14 style" widgets and no shortcut hooks. This is the only widget I miss, and I've put the Harmony app where the Camera app icon was on the lock-screen but it's not as convenient.

Overall, very happy with iOS 18. Surprised how well it runs on my iPhone 11.

I love the new control centre. Finally, I have a button that actually turns Bluetooth on/off (same for Wi-Fi) instead of just half-heartedly disabling it. This is done by creating a shortcut that does nothing but toggle it and adding that as an icon.

I also have a whole control centre page covering my Philips Hue bulbs and scenes. It's really useful.

I feel like they just gave us beta 1 ios 18 because this ios 18 is VERY SLOW and buggy. My call kept going in and out and there is a MAJOR ICLOUD STORAGE BUG.....when I was on ios 17.6.1 I had 57mb storage in icloud now it went up to 87 and just keeps increasing. I barely do anything on the phone and I barely have anything on the phone. HOW IS THIS HAPPENING......this is why I think theres a glitch in ios 18 but Im not sure. I also find it funny because when u go to iphone storage it says I have all this free space yet my icloud shows at the top with the green dots that very little is being used but the NUMBER says 87mb WEIRD right?
87 Megs IS very little.

That headline is a shortened version of "[Did You] Just Install iOS 18? Here are 10 Things to do First." There is nothing wrong there. The clear meaning is "here are 10 things to do first after you have installed iOS 18."

I read it as “[Should You] Just Install iOS 18? Here Are 10 Things to Do First.” I realize I’m being pedantic but it looks like I’m not the only one who was a little confused by the title.

I agree that they left themselves open to confusing interpretations.
