Do you notice any stuttering with that drive (especially when making numerous small random writes)? I've heard mixed reports about the Patriot V2 ssd's...thanks! :)

Only 32 GB? What a total waste of time and money...

I use approximately 10GB on my portable, 15GB on my desktop, and 2GB on my mobile phone counting data on internal disks. I could still fit all of that on a formatted 32GB disk.

Not everybody uses internal drives for large data storage now that 1TB+ drives with USB2/Firewire/eSATA/etc ports can be had for under $200. 32GB is a pretty good amount of disk space. :)

There is also a massive market for small netbooks that only contain 4 - 16GB of storage. Many of my friends use these as their primary computers now because they always have them in their bags. Convenience trumps power + space.

Your opinion is valid, but a great many people are going to disagree with your opinion.

Thanks, that was slightly more eloquently put than my post :D That, and he probably missed the fact that I want to add a 500GB drive in place of the superdrive.

If you already have a main computer, a little "netbook" with a small HD makes sense.

I have a 4gb iPhone, and I can barely fill it. It holds a few days of music. That's plenty for any trip!

You know, Ive still never managed to fill more than 20GB with my crap on any device.

The more expensive ones are SLC...the cheaper ones are MLC...SLC are typically faster, have a longer lifespan, use less power.

I wish I could afford one of the new Intel SSD drives, the 80GB X25-M. I have to admit though, at $100 for a 32GB drive, I'd be tempted.

Very tempting indeed. I just dropped my 200gb 7200rpm Macbook drive, so I'm thinking about going SSD when I get it up and running again. portishead, I'm glad to see someone else is able to use such a small space in practice! It gives me hope.

$90 for this SSD, though I don't know if it's any good:

64 GB - 170 bucks new on ebay

... the OCZ

Works beautifully in an alu macbook.

32GB? I know that's like nothing, because I have a 32GB SSD on my tablet computer. I mean I do nothing on the tablet except take notes in class and maybe check a few emails, but on your main computer, I'd think such sacrifice is entirely unjustified. Installing OS X takes up a third; if you ever plan to run Office or CS4, you'll have no space left for anything less. Very impractical.

I would advise the OP to re-evaluated the decision.

Well I dont think it is that crazy, because I have a iMac with over 1TB of storage available. If need more than 32gb while I am away from my iMac I would be surprised. My current laptop has a 40gb 5400 in it. I just ordered the new macbook yesterday and I am considering the OSZ because it is only 49.99 on newegg after rebate...:)

people will make do with the space...not everyone needs 4Gb+ of printer drivers and every language in the world ;) Plus if you have an external drive, an imac, or an ipod, then your music doesn't have to live there either!

Personally, I'm waiting for an ExpressCard SSD that uses PCI express, rather than having ones now which use stupid USB 2.0, and negate the point of expresscard, and to some extent, having an SSD! If they come out with a 16gb ExpressCard that does use PCI speeds, Leopard and all my apps are going on that! It also means I could possibly Time Machine backup stuff to the HDD if it lets me!

edit: oh wait, they already make them! Slightly expensive though!

I think I could probably make it with a 64 GB SSD. I'm using 100 GB on this desktop right now, but around 80GB of it is media that could be on an external drive.

Since I'm waiting for the 17" model anyway, maybe SSDs will drop even further in price around then.
