Better the 24th than the 26th

Very true. It actually might arrive tomorrow or the 23rd if it follows the same route that the Ipod I bought did. I bought an Ipod Touch at the same time for my sister for Christmas and it got here on the 19th.

Mine is so close. I ordered it on the 15 and then it said shipped on the 19th. It's in Memphis right now but it says it won't be delivered till the 24th.

I ordered mine on the 18th. It also shipped on the 19th from Shanghai. It got to Memphis at 5:06AM on the 21st. I just checked the tracking status and it is now at my local sort facility in Hapeville, Ga. FedEx tracking says that the estimated delivery date is the 24th at 10:30AM. I'm fairly certain it will be arriving tomorrow or Tuesday for sure. Yay for new MBPs!!!:apple:

I got my tracking number, and the package is sitting in Shanghai, China. Estimated delivery on the 29th.

Does 4.9 kg sound about right for a MBP + Minidisplayport-DVI adapter?

congrats! The weight does sound right, the MBP packaging is very well done, and they have a brown box to go over that, and it fits perfectly and provides some added protection to help minimize potential damage in transit.

Apple is being quite optimistic. They say it should be delivered on the 24th (yeah right...). UPS says it will be here on the 29th, pretty much what I expected considering all the holidays this week.

Yeah mine just arrived. I'm actually typing on it right now. It said it would arrive on the 24th but arrived in the morning.

My MacBook Pro has made it to Europe, currently sitting in Warsaw. Too bad it's going to sit on a shelf for 5 days before it's delivered to me due to the holidays.

Awesome! Mine also arrived today around 10:30AM. I too am typing on my brand new MBP!

OK, for you that just got yours (MBP), how great are they? I ask because mine doesn't get opened until 12/15/08...

My MacBook Pro is now in Sweden and will be stuck at the airport until Monday morning due to the holidays. Bummer. :(

My MacBook Pro arrived a while ago. Will wait a while before a turn it on though. Damn that thing is cold. My fingers are still cold from touching it. Nothing is missing that I've seen and no visible damage to the shell.

Couple questions...

Is VLC the best(Or one of the best) movie player for the mac? Will it be able to play everything or atleast most things?

Transmission is for torrents right? Have you tried the Utorrent beta yet?

+1 for uTorrent. Transmission was horribly slow for me but I think it was a one off case. Most reports i've heard is that it's rapid. uTorrent is good just now but it can only get better.

I have µtorrent beta. It's a horrible bandwidth hog atm. It has improved with each build, but it's not great. Sometimes it randomly maxes out my CPU too, but quitting and relaunching fixes that. I'm only still using it because Azureus has become (well, always was, really) bloatware and when I tried Transmission it didn't do everything I wanted it to.

Is open office available for Mac?

Id suggest that over the outrageously priced Office.

It is available and, of course, is free.

I'd recommend anything over office..

iWork, googledocs, and if you just want a text editor.. bean

+ 1. I vote for iWork. I have both iWork and MS Office (and open office... which now I think of it is called Neo Office). There's one thing I use Office for (commenting/tracking changes in rtf files because for some reason Pages doesn't do this properly; only for doc files). I much MUCH prefer iWork. Office makes me want to punch my screen (my poor little MBP!) because it is so horribly, horribly slow. The worst thing is accidentally clicking the icon in my dock and having to wait, wait, wait for it to launch sufficiently to be able to quit.

Also, last time I checked, iwork was less than half the price!

You should disable DHT for uTorrent as it seems to be causing a lot of problems for people.

Been using my MBP for quite a while now, and I can say it is an impressive machine. I haven't found any defects at all on it. Fans will speed up if it gets hot. Temperatures seem to be okay as well, all of them below 40C in idle, and CPU below 55C under some load. I haven't done a proper load test yet though.

Both the GPU:s are available and seem to be working without any problems, though I haven't run anything graphic intensive just yet.

I got the 85 screen and it is superb, way, way better than the one on my old Asus notebook. Easily the best screen on a notebook I have ever seen, I haven't had any problems with the reflections of the screen so that is great.

The battery life is great as well. I unplugged it between 2-3PM CET (some time after 8PM now) and it is still running on battery, with it being in sleep mode for about an hour total since I unplugged it. About 30 minutes of battery life left at the moment. I have been running on the 9400M, with wireless on, screen brightness on auto (about 2/3s to 8/10s brightness).

So far I have only encountered two problems: TCP packets being blocked by the router (fixed by forwarding the ports to the MBP).

The other problem is my right hand keep hitting the key to the left of the one i want, I believe this happens partly because I have had another column of keys at the right of my old notebook keyboard. Already started improving as I've been writing this.

I haven't installed WinXP yet, will probably do that tomorrow, but so far I haven't missed Windows at all.

All in all, a great purchase, easily the best notebook I have ever used in my life. Only need to install all the applications that I have been missing, which could take a little while (oh and installing apps are a million times easier than under Windows).
