I'm not really sure about the minimum needs for 480 playback. You could probably get the best playback using VLC 1.1.12. My 1Ghz G4 iMac can barely playback the Apple TV 1G preset in Handbreak without stuttering. Haven't tried it on my 1.25Ghz one. I do know that my 1.5Ghz Cube can playback the Apple TV 2 Handbreak preset in VLC 1.1.12 without a problem.

Good thing I'm not a huge video guy!

As an owner of the very latest, most high-end 27" iMac, I am SUPER jealous of the awesome, movable screen that computer has.

WHY did Apple discontinue that design!? It was SO cool, AND functional! This duck-bill foot my iMac has really sucks in comparison...

For $50, that's an AMAZING find! I always use eBay... Now I'm considering getting an iMac as a desktop for my room. I'll look into one of these!

I, personally would install leopard on it if I wanted it updated... but Tiger's great for light stuff! 40GB HD too! :D

Yeah, they really are such a great design. But don't be jealous, you have a hell of a machine!!!

Yeah I was very lucky with that deal that I found. I'm thinking of Leopard, but I've heard of better performance with Tiger, Leopard may just hurt performance and my usage will be lighter tasks but we shall see. I haven't been on Tiger since '06!

And actually, It's an 80GB Hard drive inside!

wrinkster22, one way that you can playback dvd rips with ease and great quality is to rip them with RipIt and make a .dvdmedia folder that plays in the built in DVD player. I know my Cube's OEM 450Mhz G4 could playback those without a problem. But only the Leopard version of DVD player has support for the .dvdmedia files and they take up lots of room.

You can install a slide show and use it as an industrial design sculpture slash picture frame.

Congrats to your buy. I hope you got one with a good screen.

Hey all

I just ordered myself a nice little iMac G4 15 inch, 1 Ghz, 512 MB of RAM, 80 GB Hard drive on Amazon for $55 (+$20 shipping). Just for my collection/love of the design and also I'll keep it in my room for music, light browsing, email, documents. Not my main computer of course.

How does this sound for $55? I'm absolutely stoked to get this thing, come this Friday. I'll update you guys and girls with my setup come Friday.

Cheers!

I have that same Mac only with 1.5GB Ram i am Running Leopard and have to say it feels just as fast as Tiger:). I traded a Old beat up Dell to get this iMac The guy i traded with on Craigslist said That the iMac is Junk if it "Can Not sync my new iPad" and he would take anything that would sync a iPad. Need less to say i was very happy to trade a 2004 Dell for a iMac G4 The funny thing is that he just needed to upgrade to leopard and i told him that and he said im done with macs just give me the PC.:D you got a very good deal for your iMac it is hard to find one for under $125:) Enjoy it:D
