Works fine in his phone. Just won't show up at all in mine.

I'm trying redsn0w now.

I'm at a loss. Redsn0w seems to have worked fine. It's jailbroken now. Cydia is installed and WiFi works. But even after running ultrasn0w, I get the "No SIM" message.

Any thoughts?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling ultrasn0w. I'm still getting the No SIM message. I'm just sick. Everything was working just fine until that frickin' Firewall IP update and now I can't even get it back to seeing a SIM card, whether it's AT&T or TMobile. But what's so odd is that right after I first did the re-jailbrake and unlock this morning, it recognized the TMo SIM and I made a call. I was putting my case back on it when suddenly, "No SIM" and ever since, I've gotten nada.

Someone please help me.

Sounds like your phone hardware is malfunctioning and it has nothing to do with your firewall update.

Do you still have a warranty?

No, this is an old phone. A 3G that's a couple of years old. Stupid thing is, everything else is working. It's essentially an 8-gig iPod Touch right now. WiFi works. I can install from Cydia and such. Just can't get any SIM card to register.

No SIM means that, well, the phone can't detect a SIM card installed.

Try reseating the SIM and reinserting the SIM tray.

If that doesn't work... check the contacts of your SIM. If they look worn then try another SIM. If that works then go to TMO and tell them you lost your phone and need a new SIM.

If that still doesn't work restore, re-jailbreak and re-unlock.

Worst case scenario- your SIM contacts [in the phone] are broken. Take the phone to Apple to replace it ($199 I think) or take it to a cell phone repair place and see whether they can fix it for less.

Ok, new info.

Tried another person's AT&T SIM. It worked fine. Tried it with both their SIM card tray and mine to make sure it wasn't something with that not allowing the SIM card to seat properly. Popped my TMo SIM back in, "No SIM". Put her SIM card back in and it worked fine again. Even tried my TMo SIM in her phone and it recognized it but gave an "Invalid SIM" message. So, something about this SIM card with this phone isn't working well.

Go to the TMO store and say you lost your phone. They should give you a new one for a small fee.

(I'm guessing the SIM contacts are worn?)

Must be the SIM card. I took another coworker's TMo SIM card and put it in here and it got a T-Mobile signal just fine. Even made a phone call with it and got a text message. Her TMobile phone recognizes my TMo SIM just fine but the iPhone won't. My Motorola W490 will also recognize my SIM. So for some reason, it just won't play nice with this SIM card anymore.

Now, is TMo going to charge me $20 for a new SIM? If so, should I just buy a cheaper one off eBay or something?

Best to call and ask.

In Hong Kong SIM replacements are free for the first time... perhaps that's the case in the US as well?

If you buy a SIM from eBay, keep in mind you'll have to wait for shipping and travel out to the TMO store to activate it, so I would just pay a bit more for less hassle.

Well, I went by and they replaced my SIM for free. But it still doesn't work. I can't figure this out for the life of me.

Let me ask this. My original jailbreak was done with Spirit. I've read vague references to "if your JB was with Spirit, do _________ or this won't work" or what have you. Honestly I can't remember the specifics so I'm hoping someone here will have an idea of what I'm talking about. Does a Spirit jailbreak do something unique that causes other jailbreaks/unlocks not to work properly?

Ok, so I restored back to 3.1.3. Activated using a friend's AT&T SIM. Jailbroke using Spirit just like I did back when I first jailbroke the phone. Everything worked. Went into Cydia and installed Ultrasn0w. After that, the AT&T SIM still works, but my TMo SIM doesn't even get recognized. Just "No SIM" at the top. And this is after getting a brand new SIM card from TMo.

The only thing I can think that is different is perhaps the version of ultrasn0w. I think when I ran it the first time a couple of months ago, it was on version 0.93. It's now on version 1.1 or something. Is there anyway to get a copy of 0.93 and install it to the phone and try that?
