I was seriously getting worried about a new design this year. That would mean that the same people crying post after post, thread after thread about the aesthetics for the last 2 years might not carry on for a third. Lucky us!! We get to listen to the broken record for 12 more months. The joys....

I had a feeling about audio quality... if it was perceivably better I would have expected Apple to mention this in their "10 reasons why this is really in upgrade" presentation.

Battery life is an interesting one. Apple only pegs it an hour (at least on the plus; that's the model I prefer for myself). Is an hour really that noticable? Particularly this early?

The Verge and Mossberg are some of the biggest Apple fanboy sites out there along with BGR.

That must be why Mossberg titled his review "Choosing the iPhone 7 is tougher than in the past."

The review at the Verge wasn't exactly glowing, either. Here's a snip from the conclusion:

But unless you’re eager and ready to live the early adopter life, you won’t actually be missing out on much if you don’t get an iPhone 7. This is an iPhone that lays a marker in tech history, and it will serve as the foundation for many important changes to how phones work and integrate into our lives. We’re going to remember the iPhone 7.

It’s going to be the next iPhones that actually build a useful future on that foundation.

Do you bother to read what people are writing before you throw comments around?

cement is just wrong. They both don't face the same direction which throws the audio off. Especially when holding it on the edges. Hopefully something they will correct on future phones.
Does this come up in a review? Apple has clearly invested resources in audio balancing (look at the iPad tech, regardless of the four speakers), I don't see why it wouldn't apply to the iPhone.

Well on the ipad the speakers are all uniform. On the iphone they face different directions(one forward, the other to the side) thus directing sound differently. And in landscape mode you're likely to hold it on the edges thus blocking one of the speakers. We will have to see in practice. I haven't read a review yet that spent any time talking about the speakers other than to say it's louder.

I resemble that remark! ;)

And the take-aways are this:

Pluses:
- Better battery life finally (the ip7 delivers what should have been in the 6s)
- Better camera
- Haptic button - will take getting used to but good for future. Hopefully, will be refined (v2) in 2017 iphone
- Storage bump
- Better speakers

Minuses:
- 3.5" jack gone
- no better audio with BT or new wireless standard (word is still out as more products hit the market but right now, audio quality still the same as before)

What are your early comments on the ip7/+?

The fastest phone on the planet. That's what they forgot to include.

We expect that every year. (And Apple delivers that.)

Still doesn't excuse the loss of the audio jack though.

People are making a big deal over the audio jack. It will be forgotten. How soon we forget that cellphones used to ship with proprietary headphones not too long ago and FWIW Motorola ditched the headphone jack before Apple did but no one batted an eye.

I created an account just so I could second this ^ The antenna bands seem to be mentioned in every single review since the iPhone 6/6 Plus and I just do not get it.
Because it is covered in the Apple PR dept talking points to the usual websites that curry favor.

We'll have to see how it plays out.

I think many will adapt, but I do understand why some will protest.

That may be because of significantly smaller market share for the Lenovo/moto joint device

Have you seen the scratches on the Jet Black? This will be. This will be bigger than the iPhone 5 colour chipping. Check out the CNET YouTube video.

I don't take much stock in the Verge's reviews, especially after that one editor threw a tantrum over the watch bands.

1. I buy based on aesthetics. I do not upgrade every year. I do not sell my phone to pay for the purchase of the next one. I do not buy based on need, I buy based on what I want (screw need). I live with my phone for 2.5 to 3.5 years and after that it moves down to become a media device for however long it lasts.

I want to like the device I am constantly looking at for that entire time.

2. I don't use cases. No slapping a case on my phone. I hate case, I abhor them and I refuse to use them. You and anyone else who likes/uses cases can slap one on if you like. I repeat - I HATE CASES.

So, slapping on a case is out.

I never use a case

Believe me, I don't favor cases either; the only thing I do use is the leather sleeve since it keeps the phone thin and light. I would prefer to not use anything at all but I don't trust myself to not drop it and the sleeve has been a savior in that respect more times than i can count. But as for my first post, the antenna bands don't personally make a huge difference for me aesthetically, case or no case.

Regardless, it's still better than having only one speaker that you end up blocking half the time. So....improvement.

According to the arstechnica review of the iPhone 7, this is a non issue.

The Mossberg review I found surprising a little.

While he does say that some features are good, the audio jack loss et al. is a mixed bag... to paraphrase his words.

Usually, he is very pro-Apple. This time, a bit more even-handed.

BGR has gotten downright DISGUSTING with their Apple knob shining and this is coming from a devout Apple fan

Omg this. While the verge is usually pro Apple and I'm ok with that, bgr has become really disgusting with their slobbering of Apple.

I love Apple products, I get every new iPhone but no phone is perfect

yeah, all reviewers universally are saying lack of 3.5mm serves no purpose but the other specs are nice. I'm excited to test drive it this weekend, hopefully.

apparently the 7 camera isn't THAT much better than 6s, or am I wrong on that, second camera aside? OIS for OIS I hope that isn't the case, that was a major reason I wanted the 7 series

I dont always agree with Mossberg though, he kinda put webOS on LG OLED tv's on blast since he was in the market for a new tv after his Pioneer plasma breaking, saying apple needs come in and save the day. I dont find webOS to be a mess, I use it for all but HBO go and apple specific stuff like airplay on apple tv4,

And I am a HUGE fanboy of the OLED technology, couldn't care less what runs on it, but I think webOS is icing on the cake. Sidenote but related to Mossberg's editorials.

THOUGH!!!! I find his take on "understanding SE and 9.7 ipad pro" verge article a good one on point:
