Whose idea was it to make the edges shiny like a mirror? First of all it attracts fingerprints like crazy, and it makes it seem like a cheap lighter. My 4S had flat edges but they were matte, not shiny like this. Worst looking iPhone I've owned. Need to get a case ASAP so the edges are hidden forever.

I think this is the first post I have read of someone hating the look of the graphite.

OP, why not return it and get a color to your liking?
It's not the color. I like the graphite color. I hate it that they made the edge so shiny. It'll be the same in any other color.

Do you live in an area without internet? Is Youtube banned in your part of the world? Does your cave not have satellite?
Seeing the phone in your hand is a bit different than seeing it online. Obviously I knew how it looked. But I was still surprised. Also, this is the first time I purchased an iPhone without ever seeing one in the store. Apple Store in my city is closed due to lockdown. No other shop has any in retail stock, all stock is online. So obviously that had an effect.

I recommend to have a longer look at the 12 instead of the 12 pro. This might be the ticket for you OP!
12 definitely looks better, however the solution is easy, case. I always get a case anyway. I was just surprised how Apple managed to make it this ugly. I have owned 8 iPhones so far, this is the first time I felt like this after opening the box.

I don't care for the shiny sides that show fingerprints either, but I always use a case so no problem. I don't mind the narrow edge that appears about the phone once in the case. I have the gold version.

Perception. I think it’s their best design ever. The shiny sides are the best part in my opinion.

First world problem...

Lol

The colour edge around the front is even worse imo, looks like a iPad pro lol. Black 12 solves that.

I know what you mean. Something about the polish it looks more like plastic imitation chrome and not real metal. Definitely a first world problem but 🤷🏼‍♂️

I am looking to upgrade from 11 to 13 line and hope they go to more of a brushed stainless and drop the high polish chrome.

I thought in renders and photos the flat stainless steel edges looked chintzy compared to the rounded.
In hand and in person though the graphite 12 pro wound up being the nicest iPhone design to my eyes this year and for some time. It reminds me of a more sophisticated and modern iPhone 5s with the grey color reminiscent of the previous space grey.
The edges of the regular 12 series may be matte but the back glass smearing and fingerprinting is way worse looking to me than the edges. The entire back of my mini would get ugly looking compared to just the sides of the 12 pro. There’s more surface area there for fingerprints.
To each their own though!

Different strokes for different folks. I personally always go for the white or gold iPhones, but I dare say the graphite is the nicest looking color this year. Matte finish, and liquid metal looking sides. What's not to love?

I couldn’t use any iPhone case less because beyond the fingerprints that gather all over it, I’d smash the phone pretty quickly anyway. I think with the right case, these phones look so much nicer. I agree though, shiny finishes do look a bit cheap when they get dirty so quickly.
