With 9600M on, I set screen to around 80% bright. … I did not play game/movie …only surf internet and copy files and install applications… battery downs to 80% in 1 hour and 5 mins…So, it counts to around 5 hours 25 mins… not bad..

That is pretty good. I usually set my brightness to about 50% so I should get really good battery !

And considering you got the 2,93, which eat a little more juice then the default 2,66, it think it's pretty much accurate.

the matte screen is great for video work, and probably photoshop work as well... has ANYONE received the matte screen model ? i ordered thru our companies corporate account so no way to check on status but the dealer said they are expecting matte screen ones by the end of feb. :(

i ordered 2.93, 320gb 7200rpm, ANTI glare, 4gb ram

That's the screen i wanted to See !!! :D

the matte on the 17", i like it a lot, the silver frame around the screen reminds me so much of the older macbook pro. Having that silver frame would make the transition from the classic to the unibody much smoother for me.

:apple:

The matte screen does not have the Black Bezel; it is silver.

Mechanical Strength of 17" MacBook Pro Display

Schiller's keynote: "... So it has the same display properties for anti-glare as our last 17" notebook. But I am going to show the glossy version because that's my favorite."

I was uncertain about which to chose. I came a whisker away from buying the matte display. What settled it for me, were the mechanical concerns. Glass adds strength to the display. I expect to keep this laptop for many years and I didn't want the thin display panel to flex and fail at some point. Also, I tried my niece's MacBook and did not find the glare objectionable.

On the other hand, I'm outside on the beach in Florida at the moment, and my old IBM T-42, which it has no glare is barely readable. I'd like to test the glare outside--even though I am so rarely in the situation where I'd use a laptop outside. I am outside now, only to check the status of my upcoming 17" MBP shipment. Most of the time I work at night when there are less distractions--so glare is not an issue. In any event, the glossy display won the contest.

One of the features I like most about these laptops are the backlit keyboards--this is worth more to me than a choice between matte and glossy. Working at night is hard without a lit keyboard.

In any case, it will be interesting to see the two side by side at some point. Good luck to all of you--whichever you chose.

I agree more posts of the pictures and I will believe this guy. If he shows 3 usb ports than its the 17". So far it looks exactly like the 15" version. FAKE for now!

no way thats the 15" look at the menu box on the screen its tiny.

Are you sure that the Matte display doesn't have glass underneath the coating? I might have to reconsider my order if what you're saying is correct...

Thanks,

Dave

It's pointless to at this point think about matte vs glossy. A universal truth about displays is that it's highly subjective, and that you have to go and see for yourself which you prefer. So you'll have to wait until they have both in the Apple store or at least you find a comparison test....
